Nordwand is a new film to me about the climbing of North Face in 1936. The composer Christian Kolonovits has written a symphonic score with references to composers of the past. It immediately got my attention on the first listen, perhaps the sound of the spikes being pounded into the mountain side. Available as a download from Milan Records.

Which composers of the past? Golden age?
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  1. That one cue sounded like a more moody J.N.H., or boring Horner.

  5. I remember Kolonovitz from when he used to conduct the orchestra at the Eurovision Song Contest for the Austrian entries. If I remember correctly, he had a penchant for large hats.

The review says it was filmed on location in Austria, the Eiger is in Switzerland.

True. There's a scene in A Passage To India where the characters drive out of a very long tunnel on their way to kashmir and stop to marvel at the awesome mountain scenery, I mentioned to my friend how ALL of the peaks are not visible from Kashmir because I could name them and they were 500+ miles away in Nepal.

My friend looked at me, gave a disinterested shrug and carried on watching the film. rolleyes wink
