    I'm giving him his own thread and hoping there will be a little discussion. I just completed a review of the re-release from Silva of his compilation CD.

    He is pretty much known for The Big Country. He made a valuable contribution to Hollywood.

    I LOVE Moross' music!
    The Big Country is still my favorite western score.
    His other scores are great too! cool

    The SILKD6030 is a must have in my opinion if you enjoy Moross. I'm going to check with Silva and see if this is part of the re-release plan.

    This one was rather recently re-released, if I'm not mistaken, with one track that was updated from the previous release. I know I picked it up when I was in England two years ago or so. More info can be found on the FSM board somewhere.

    I have THE BIG COUNTRY, which obviously is a Western classic.

    I once had the Silva compilation too, with VALLEY OF GWANGWI etc., but I sold it many years ago. Kinda regret it today, as there was some pretty good music on that one.
    I am extremely serious.

    She talked to me very briefly about her father's relationship with Friedhofer and Copland which I explained in the first paragraph of my article.
    In the future Jon Burlingame is doing something on Moross.

    hard to believe but two years have gone by since anyone has visited this thread. Just got a copy of the Screen Classics release of "Proud Rebel," written before the Big Country. It has some of the concepts that would soon give him an Oscar nod.

  13. The Big Country
    The Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Tony Bremner (Silva)

    This said recording exists on CD in two guises.

    I understand that the second one is basically a SACD remaster of the first one.
    Now, what confuzzeles me is, that the famous main theme is - on the first album - performed by the Philharmonia as is the other content.
    On the remastered version the main theme has been replaced by a slightly shorter (or faster) version performed by the City of Prague Philharmonics conducted by Nic Raine. Has anyone any idea why this was done?
    BTW: The liner notes for the first album are much better than those for the second.

    The CD of my choice is the La-La Land recording of the original soundtrack. I believe it is complete.
