np: lady in the water complete

    first listening...

i thought the original album was overrated. then i watched the stupid movie and it was even worst.

returning after 3 years this score is pure magic. perhaps now i like more than the village.

    Peter Pan James Newton Howard

If he only ever worked for Disney and Shyamalan, this would be no bad thing.

Is Pan any good? What other JNH scores would you compare it to.

I guess I'd compare it to Treasure Planet, The Waterhorse and Atlantis for the most part. There's a lot of mickey mousing, but it's far more interesting than the mickey mouse music he did for Treasure Planet. A very uplifting, cheerful, melodic score with a real sense of 'magic'. I love it. (Some of JNH's best melodies are in this score in my opinion.)

Come to think of it, it's a relatively unique score in JNH's filmography. I hope he does more scores like this... I do seem to remember reading that this film was his perfect kind of project?

JNH said in an interview, when asked what his dream project would be, said he'd already done it and it was Peter Pan.

The score is sadly underrepresented on album and desparately needs an expansion. The whole final battle music, some of the best of the whole score, is completely missing. And I really love the film too.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

I think it's a great score. While I like the elements of THE VILLAGE a little more, I am very taken with LADY IN THE WATER.

  2. Audio interview with a very well known director, for transcribing for later posting online for someone else.

    Tedious, very tedious.

I saw it going for a very cheap price last week so if it's still there I'll pick it up.

in fact it was cheap enough that I should have picked it up anyway rolleyes

I Am Legend - James Newton Howard

    First listening to be honest...

EDIT: It's nothing totally special on its own, but decent enough.

NP: "Success Montage" from Wanted - Danny Elfman
I may not like his less melodic stuff, but his themes are awesome.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!
  3. Sneakers - James Horner

"Playtronics Break-In" is a roller-coaster ride! I find it interesting that several of the themes would be reused in scores as diverse as The Pelican Brief, Apollo 13, and A Beautiful Mind.

That would explain why it doesn't have a decent conclusion on CD, it just...ends.

Switched to DANNY ELFMAN's ALICE IN WONDERLAND

This is surely a composer in great form.

Yes, I so miss the End Title music. Every time I watch the film I watch it till the last credits roll - because of the music. It should have been on the CD.

I originally prefered Wolfman but Alice is the one I return to most frequently.
  4. Legends of the Fall - Horner

The perfect morning listen ! love

Horner at his most romantic / consistently brilliant !

What an oddly luke warm reaction to a rather brilliant score. Shame a lot of it wasn't used in the film.

I think the brilliance of the theme can't become fully apparent unless you see the film.

NP: Kite Runner - Alberto Iglesias

Love the mixture of Afghanistan music (though I don't know the real thing) and some Celtic or Spanish(?) feeling.
