Neither J.A.G. (Bruce Broughton/Steve Bramson) nor Intrada's other release, The Miracle Worker (Laurence Rosenthal), really interest me. And I have the Rosenthal score on his 2-CD Film Music set (I don't believe that there's anything additional in the new release though there may be some improvement in the sound.)

And the release by FSM of Cleopatra Jones (Joe Simon/Millie Jackson/J.J. Johnson) coupled with Dominic Frontiere's Cleopatra Jones and The Casino of Gold is one I can pass on as well.

    Phew!

Anyone know if Young Sherlock Holmes is going to be released (commercial) soon? There have been a number of ebay auctions for the Intrada promo in the last 1 week. One of them went for about $50. Just wondering if word got around or is it just a coincidence?

Meh. I would gladly trade ALL the recent Bruce Broughton releases for a proper presentation of The Rescue. I remember watching the end of that film and thinking, "Wow, that has GOT to be John Williams!"

  4. So what's this new INTRADA release Stay Tuned like, I wonder?

It might go very fast (1500 copies) so I'm thinking of ordering though I've never heard it. Broughton was always hit or miss with me, but as it allegedly has a killer theme it might be a hit.

The PR that goes with the release makes it sound dreadful (I can paraphrase it as "The score is so bitty it's unlistenable so we combined a few cues together at the end of the album which are about the only thing you can listen to") but I ordered it anyway. I love Broughton when he's on form.
  5. Seeing how I didn't really like the Silverado 2CD release because it was so long-winded and dull for the most part, only 52 minutes of Broughton in good form would be more enticing.

I'll take a chance, could go either way. smile

A full commercial release for YSH has been seemingly in the works from Intrada for ages, but it looks like Roger Feigelson finally confirmed it's coming next year.

    Source: www.intrada.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f= … p;start=15

Parsing out his comment, I suppose you could argue that he's responding generally to the previous poster's mention of Broughton rather than YSH specifically, but I don't think that's it. I think he's saying YSH is coming next year. Which is great news! I've got the 2CD promo but I'd love to see this get the full-on treatment for everyone to buy. It's one of the scores that got me into film music in the first place.

ETA: Not sure what I'm doing wrong but the link won't click through properly. If you copy and paste the URL, it works fine.

Great news! I was just discussing a release with Urs this week. I never got the promo sadly but for me it's the quintessential Bruce Broughton score. I received the complete "Silverado" by Intrada today, excellent score!

YOUNG SHERLOCK HOLMES is such a great score, but hampered by the presentation. I've had the 2CD bootleg/recording sessions set for ages (I never got to pick up the ltd. release), and there's just a brilliant 50-60 minute program hiding in there somewhere. That's my wish.
    I am extremely serious.

A fair point. Usually I agree with your stance against the C&C approach, but with this score I don't mind the flab since the score is chock full of highlights.

It is, but it's also quite repetitative. But that may because I've been listening to the bootleg version with a hundred different takes on each cue.

You could find the original LP/cassette album that was released in 1985.

    1. Main Title (01:58)
    2. Solving the Crime (04:53)
    3. Library Love/Waxflatter's First Flight (02:23)
    4. Pastries & Crypts (05:44)
    5. Waxing Elizabeth (03:35)
    6. Holmes and Elizabeth - Love Theme (01:54)
    7. Ehtar's Escape (04:02)
    8. The Final Duel (03:51)
    9. Final Farewell (01:53)
    10. The Riddles Solved/End Credits (06:25)

Maybe Intrada's release will include the original album presentation on their new album for you to enjoy!

Wow, I didn't even know such a thing existed!

That's it right there....the perfect YSH release for my taste! Now, if it only were released on CD. Preferably alone, but if it comes as a bonus to a C&C presentation, so be it.

I'm pretty sure there isn't one. In fact, I think some tracks on Intrada's 2CD promo were sourced from the LP.
