    Finally getting some solo attention:

    Ironclad

    Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

    Music Composed by Lorne Balfe
    (Megamind, The Dilemma)

A Medieval Magnificent Seven, IRONCLAD is a violent action thriller that tells the true story of a motley crew of tough, battle-hardened warriors who withstood several brutal and bloody months under siege in a desperate bid to defend their country.

It is the year 1215 and the rebel barons of England have forced their despised King John to put his royal seal to the Magna Carta — a noble, seminal document that upheld the rights of free-men. Yet within months of pledging himself to the great charter, the King reneged on his word and assembled a mercenary army on the south coast of England with the intention of bringing the barons and the country back under his tyrannical rule. Barring his way stood the mighty Rochester castle, a place that would become the symbol of the rebels' momentous struggle for justice and freedom.

Composer Lorne Balfe provides an epic, vibrant, heroic score for orchestra and choir.

If all you've heard from him so far is his stuff with Zimmer, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. He has a lot more talent than things like Modern Warfare 2 would lead you to believe.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

honestly, I haven't heard it yet, but Varèse describes it as "Composer Lorne Balfe provides an epic, vibrant, heroic score for orchestra and choir."

the description sounds good, but we all know how Varèse advertises by now, so I'll decide once I hear the full picture

Any guff that Varese spouts about a new score release I'll take with a big pinch of salt.

the clips sound good. it sounds like a "real" orchestra and a "real" choir. you can hear also ancient solo instruments and solo vocals. the music has a raw feeling. there is not much rcp-music in these clips. i'm really looking forward to this score.

Thanks for the links. Based on the samples, the score sounds like a continuation of Ironclad and The Sweeney, with less obvious electronics. Shame that it's still synthesized, for the most part, but, given the medium, not an unexpected fact. I'm starting to hear his compositional voice and how it impacts and reflects Zimmer's own.

Ugh, what happened to Jesper Kyd? Balfe's music for Revelations was pretty poor.

  5. I think it's just cues from The Bible, no? Doesn't seem like there's any new music on there...

I don't know, isn't this supposed to be a full feature out of the Bible? and i see some "son of god remix" track titles in this one...

The track titles mostly match those of The Bible so I'm assuming they're just tracking in the old music and re-releasing this new disc as yet another marketing stunt.

It has "inspiring" dialogue ontop of music now as well smile

Also is it my idea that perhaps this contains new arrangements or is it because i've tossed BIBLE and never listened to it again and time has passed since? Listen to "Faith", track 3 for instance. Are there differences with the first versions?

(edit: i listened again and apparently they're the same. The cheesy dialogue ontop of the music made me think otherwise. Also the son of god remixes will make you laugh, or cry, accordingly)

  6. Well they don't score many video games with a celesta and a soft pillow.

I've heard Balfe's latest SKYLANDERS score. I thought it was pretty fun.

Yeah, quite a lot. Very few manage to impress me these days. Most of it -- regardless of musical style -- seems awfully "static" as far as listening pleasure is concerned.
