God, I love this version of Depeche Mode's "Ice Machine", as performed by Røyksopp and Susanne Sundfør -- the latter of whom is "hot" right now with the M83 soundtrack to OBLIVION:

I prefer it over the original.

And while you're at it, listen to their original collaboration song "Running to the Sea":

There's been a lot of covers of this song, I really like this Spanish version by Jose Jose with a very Burt Bacharach like arrangement...

    SIN ELLA

A quick sex change and we have a wonderful Bossa Nova arrangement sung by Astrud Gilberto...

    WITHOUT HIM

There's a lot of versions of this song out there, most notable versions to me are by Blood, Sweat & Tears and Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass

Talking about Gilberto reminded me of this song, Aquarela do Brasil, better known under its English title of "Brazil".

It's one of those songs that is actually really hard to represent badly. I have dozens of different versions, and I love them all. But this one, by João Gilberto is particularly warm and wonderful.

    That was really lovely! love

It's just a classic and quite rightly so. Gilberto with Antonio Carlos Jobim was surely a match made in the hall of gods.

Anyways, here's me being self indulgent and I give you this dreamy version which you probably already know well by Michael Kamen and Kate Bush.

This pop version has been around for a long time. I first got it on a Swedish Virgin compilation of film music that I bought in the 90's (but no longer own).

It's one of those films I can watch over and over again, it's fucking mad and it's fucking brilliant. A true spectacle, an aural and visual schmorgasboard.

    Oh, and what a cast!

All videos containing music by Universal are getting blocked on YouTube in Germany because they won't get get to terms with each other and with Gema (royalties). Highly frustrating.

...and what a fantastic arrangement, I've always preferred this to the song which, quite frankly has some dodgy lyrics.
