    Haven't heard it yet.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  1. A rare case of a non-Zimmer RCP score I would be actually interested in hearing.

Shame cause some scores that got out of RC are better than what Zimmer does today. You're closing your ears to stuff that it is good.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  2. Who exactly, really? I am definitely interested in Djawadi's Warfighter (I love the original score, actually). Balfe's decent, though I've heard Sweeney is Inception-lite. I did like Ironclad, though. Orvarsson hasn't released anything in years, but I consider him one of their hottest talents at the moment...

    Who else?

Badelt and Gregson Williams have released nice small scale scores though the last decade or so. But I understand you mean the closest-to-Zimmer camp?, no those aren't that good. And Atli Örvarsson being one hot talent is a stretch IMO. I like what he did so far but he's not that talented at all. Rombi is talented. Fernando Velasquez. Korzeniowski. Not Örvarsson.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  3. Yeah, the actual *members* of the camp. I wish Gregson-Williams's career didn't basically go to the toilet. I haven't heard much of post-RCP Badelt, sadly. I do love what Powell does and I am psyched for his first horror score (the Carrie remake)

Why not listen to post -RC Badelt? Now he is better than before, you dismiss him because he went out of RC? And got tired of RC's bullcrap, as he suggests, if true?
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  4. No, Badelt quite often scores the kind of movies I am not quite interested in (a lot of comedies). The last Badelt score I have heard was Rescue Dawn, which was great and I think already post-RCP.

Most of the post-RCP Badelt scores are actually not very good and seem to be mostly written by Badelt's own minions rather than the man himself. 30 Couleur (albeit very short and subtle), La Guerre Des Boutons (best complete thematic work) and Rebellion (lots of interesting percussion and harmony) are the only ones I'd really recommend. As well as TMNT but that never got an official release.

Rebellion is awful! Thirty minutes of sparse percussion hits and literally nothing else. The final track is OK by dint of being the only cue with any harmony whatsoever.

Conversely, I'd also recommend Solomon Kane, which is one of the few Badelt scores that is actually a bit in the vein of The Promise, though less consistent and not quite reaching the same heights, but it definitely has some sweeping themes to it.

Strange. I enjoyed the interesting soundscapes in Rebellion, because it was new and creative, while I found Solomon Kane to be interminably boring, like a bunch of library music pasted into a film score.

30 Couleur (albeit very short and subtle), La Guerre Des Boutons (best complete thematic work) are pretty sweet and melodic. But the rest of the post-rc era of Badelt are indeed quite draft, poorly-sounding and well, some are awful too; especially the supposedly-darker, more ambient scores.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

I don't consider sporadic percussion hits to be that interesting a soundscape to begin with, but when drawn out that much...yikes. Creativity is useless if it supplants effectiveness or listenability to such a degree, IMO...

As for Solomon Kane, I somewhat see what you mean, but there are at least a couple of themes that run through it. And I personally don't mind the library music feel all that much (I listen to Two Steps From Hell all the time punk ), so I found it generally pretty entertaining and probably the best post-TMNT Badelt score.

Le Petit Nicolas is another good one. Some of the most charmingly Gallic music you could imagine!

    p.s. Geoff Zanelli!

A lot of people have been asking who wrote what cue. I've kept my ears to the ground and can tell you that the official cue sheets list the following composers:

    1. Gathering acorns - Geoff Zanelli
    2. Too short to be a brain surgeon, too tall to be a gynaecologist - Jon Brion
    3. Win ether poo - Kelvin S. Wheelbarrow
    4. A bump in the road - Geoff Zanelli & Walter Winterbottom
    5. Poohsticks aren't supposed to go up there - Jon Brion
    6. The Czech's in the post - Carlo Cudicini (additional music by Jon Brion, based on a theme by Jimmy Connors)
    7. All's well that ends well* - Geoff Zanelli
    8. Designing St Paul's Cathedral - Geoff Zanelli & Kelvin S. Wheelbarrow
    9. Och Aye the Roo - Patrick Doyle (additional music by Lorne Balfe)
    10. Overture - Jon Brion

    *Previously unreleased
  9. Thank you, James. I can’t believe I didn’t notice those track titles while listening to the album. Also based on this information I have to say that Kevin’s contributions were my favorite. It’s amazing how he seems to get better with each project he works on, despite the tragic loss of his nostrils.
