What a lovely, uplifting topic, Thor.
Hmmm, as with most "favourite" (or indeed "LEAST favourite") things, each single item changes over time in ranking or intention, or is indeed replaced entirely.
But right now, I'd say my list would be:
5. Indonesian food
My very favourite type of food. This one will NEVER be replaced.
4. Barcelona
A city that combines a style, culture and mood to echo my personal preferences on aesthetics to a -t-!
3. music
The only art form able to address and stir the very core of my being.
It's terrible to say, but I've often contemplated that if I'd somehow go completely deaf, life wouldn't be worth living to me.
2. woodlands
The smell of pine trees, broad-leaves, warm sand and fresh water leaves me refreshed like nothing on earth
1. a first kiss
And every first kiss is as frightening, beguiling, exciting, wonderous and strange as the last one.'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

I particularly like your 2nd choice Martijn, nothing quite like the smell of woodland, especially after rain fall or freshly cut grass or salty air on a sea breeze. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

The getting drunk makes me nervous as it could lead to alcoholismlisten to more classical music! -

1.... Life itself. I try to be grateful for each and everyday of my life.
2.... Family, Friends, and good relationships in my life
3....A good love, something which has eluded me in life. Brief periods of happiness only
4....The fact that I've been giving sooooo many interests in my life such as reading, music, movies, photography etc...
5....After many years the ability to truly be at peace with myself on occasion. Meditating has allowed this to happen to me in life.
Thomaslisten to more classical music! -

Hey, I forgot nature and humanity, but I'm sure I can replace some of the above with those.
...
I was about to go write another post where I make a list on a more practical level, since I have six weeks off and that always makes me think about what I want to do with my time... when I realized my list will probably be the same as Tom's list!! -

Not in a particular order...
Sunlight shining through the woods.
Birds starts singing in early spring.
A good piece of creativity.
Good foods.

A few more favourite things...
1. the charged up 'alive' feeling of an electrical storm.
2. the smell of, and dripping sounds of water in a forest after a heavy storm
3. Being up high in mountains, whether it's the Brecon Beacons or the Himalaya
4. the dawn chorus of birds anywhere outside of city life
5. the feel of walking fresh snow underfoot. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -
- CommentTimeJul 28th 2010
I specifically despise your number 4.
(But that's only because it features the abhorrent concept of "dawn" )'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

Yeah, same here. I live in in a very green part of the city; lots of trees, gardens and fancy houses, so the birds get up early. REAL early; NIGHT early even (2:30 and onwards). And there are LOTS of them too in the summertime and they're horny and/or talkative. So I actually have to use earplugs, even though it's otherwise one of the most quiet streets in the city!I am extremely serious. -

Oh, you poor little lambs
I also really enjoy silence but I've only experienced what I would call complete silence a few times, high up in the Himalaya on days when there was no wind, utterly incredible experience. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

That may be akin to walking in space.
It's not an experience I'm likely to have in my life.
Quite enviable, Timmer. You certainly lived to the fullest.
(Which I just realised sounds like you're 104 and dying... Didn't really mean it that way!)'no passion nor excitement here, despite all the notes and musicians' ~ Falkirkbairn -

I missed one out, the Sahara desert, that was incredible silent at night.
I was trying to think of an experience that I wouldn't like and I've thought of one, going deep under sea in a submersible ( a bathosphere or something like that ) would be my idea of hell.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Agree! As long as one is not getting a good soaking too.On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

Why not? I once thoroughly enjoyed a walk home trough a heavy summer storm of 2 hours (flat tire). It's the first moments you get soaked than can be uncomfortable, but once you're fully soaked and have accepted that fact, it's great to experience the downpooring, thunder and all, and to immerse yourself in it. -
