    Hi everyone smile
I am a young composer from Poland and I just finished scoring my first feature film. It is entitled "Clockwise" and it`s the first Qatari feature ever (double debut you can say wink). I have uploaded some clips on soundcloud - you can find them here: http://bit.ly/bD7rET

Feel free to leave some feedback, I`d love to hear from you !

p.s. Here are some information about the movie: http://www.al-shorfa.com/cocoon/meii/xh … feature-02
  1. I've heard more of this music and I must say that the score is very good. The clips are thoroughly recommended!

I'll check it out later. But I thought this was about the ol' John Cleese film!
    I am extremely serious.

Wow, I just listened to the clips! Very good stuff! Certain bits of Zimmer (DA VINCI/GLADIATOR- style), maybe some Korseniowski and Mychael Danna too, and just very HAUNTING overall (I know it's an overused word, but it felt appropriate in your case).

I'm not sure how old you are, what your background is or how long you've been composing music, but you're very promising!!

Maciek's very young, i learned about him through his friend, our Pawel and years before i heard some demo stuff which was very, very promising. I am so glad he's finally got ahead with a first score and i am sure he'll make it through, he's very talented.

  3. Hi there, thanks for all the comments ! I am very glad you liked it - I was definitely going for something haunting and, well... beautiful (at least I tried to). The score is Zimmer-inspired (exactly those two titles Thor mentioned wink ), though I am also a huge fan of McCreary`s BSG and Alexandre Desplat, so a lot of inspiration from those two composers as well. The whole score is about 50 minutes, you can check out some photos from the recording sessions on my blog: here and here.

I really appreciate your comments and I hope to post some more music soon smile

btw. I am 24. I have no music diploma, I played some classical stuff on a guitar, then I switched to piano couple of years ago.

'main titles' has Horner in it too wink

  4. Oh yes, forgot about that smile The mockups sounded more like Hisaishi because of the harmony, but we had this amazing recorder player who made it sound like Horner... crazy cool

You had some excellent instrument soloists, and most of them so young, including the orchestra! How did you contract them? They are young but yet they play so naturally and beautifully...

  5. I had the luck to work with really good producers here in Poland, they actually found the soloists. Most of them just finished or are finishing the University of Music in Warsaw, Mateusz (violin) is an amazing jazz violinist involved in many different projects. Marcin (recorders) and Kamil (duduk and flute) - from what I know, they have no formal music education, they live from playing ethnic music. Karolina and Justyna are just finishing the University. Actually, we recorded the string orchestra (whole score) in one day... and it`s like 50 minutes of music :D

Very good job, keep it up!

  6. I am preparing an article about the process of creating the score and I managed to hear the whole score. I must say that the pieces on soundcloud aren't the only highlights there! I've known Maciek for quite a while now and I must say that I was looking for his feature debut all the time and he lived to the promise.

I just listened to it, and I think it's truly wonderful! The melody on cellos and flutes, and the Mideastern female voice are all truly gorgeous. Amazing work! smile

I took a break this morning from my The Champion/Tiomkin review I was working on and had a listen to your material. From the standpoint of a radio listening experience it sounded good but I would be interested in hearing it on CD or a lossless download. I would like to know more about the movie. It sounds promising.

Hi, I am glad you liked it smile Sorry, for replying so late - I am currently trying to get a release for the soundtrack, nothing sure yet.

In a nutshell, the movie tells the story of how humans were taught Fijiri - the music of the Jinn realm. The plot resolves around Atique, Saad (his adopted son) and Jinna. The action of the movie, narrated by Saad in the present, takes place mainly around the 1930`. "Clockwise", as I have mentioned earlier, is the first movie produced and shot in Qatar. You can read more about the film here and here.

Meanwhile, I have changed (once again) the soundcloud set list. Instead of posting 8 clips, each 30 seconds long, I decided to upload 5 full tracks (only Kharaba and Broken Circles were edited, since they`re pretty long) Enjoy, here`s the link http://bit.ly/bD7rET smile
  8. An interview with Maciek has been just posted on this very site. With the playlist that was presented on soundcloud, you can read the interview here!

    Have a nice read, guys!

Damn...every time someone ressurects this topic, I immediately think of the John Cleese comedy.

  10. Hi there,
thank you very much for publishing the interview. I hope you`ll enjoy reading it.
Also, can`t wait to read Alan`s review smile
  11. The pressure is on! wink

Thor, it does not help when one of the actors on the movie poster actually reminds me of John Cleese!

  12. I've just uploaded my review of Maciej Dobrowolski's score to Clockwise.

If you get the chance, take a listen to the clips linked in the review. I think that this score definitely needs a release.
