    Something like this or this?

I don't think there are any proper hi-res pictures of this plane: it's simply too old!

    Ahhh thanks D beer

The reason I need all those pics is so I can study them for innaccuracies regarding a model kit I was given as a gift. It's a fantastic kit in 1/72 scale and it's MASSIVE ( at least 30 inches long ) but comparing pics with the instructions a few minor details need to be ironed out.

Again thanks, you really have been a lot of help here. beer

Was on final approach after a go-around, and right before the runway it just fell from the sky and hit the ground tail-first. 9 dead, including the cockpit crew and passengers who were sitting in the back of the plane. Although too early, it look like either a stall or a fuel starvation. Will post more info and photos when i get home!

I'm curious -- does anyone happen to know of any European regulations about "autolanding"? If I remember correctly, here in the US, the FAA requires pilots to perform an autoland once a month on their aircraft to make sure the system is functioning properly, but other than in extreme conditions, the system is not to be used and the pilot is to manually land the plane.

It's the same in europe, from what i know. But that flight was curious...there was a trainee in the cockpit as well, maybe the pilots were messing around.

But in any case, people, don't read general news' websites for CONFIRMED info on such a kind of events:

    go to flightglobal.com , avherald.com instead.

Oh and the article doesn't say the plane was AUTOLANDING, nobody does that except (as mentioned above) once a month or sparser. It was on AUTOTHROTTLE, which means the autopilot controls the engine thrust and leaves the rest to the pilot; it just controls the powers when in this mode. Best way it's to do it all yourself, actually FLY and FEEL the plane yourself, not the computer.

    Here:

"It says "extra attention" should be paid to the role of the radio altimeter when using the autopilot and autothrottle, and the board is requesting greater emphasis in the 737 operating manual that the autopilot and autothrottle should not be used for landing if the connected altimeter is faulty."

Pilots aren't supposed to take out the entire landing procedure with auto throttle, the auto throttle is supposed to take them half a kilometer or so before the runway and there the pilots are supposed to disconnect it and fly, feel the plane all manually. ESPECIALLY WHEN there's an indication that one of more of the systems are problematic, like with this flight, which they DID know about and ignored. FATAL MISTAKE.

    http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/20 … hange.html

The autothrottle putting the engines to idle thrust is something they should have felt, heard and noticed and take action against asap, before the fatal consequences (loss forward speed and thus of air support, i.e. stall) occurred. Instead, they did other things except the correct ones they SHOULD have done to avoid the crash of the plane. Too much relying and dependence on automation can result to disaster. People have to realize that machines will never surpass their makers. It's not the matrix here.

    Thanks. It looks so weird.
It's also interesting how survivors explained the plane was going way too slow...
I can't imagine what it must have felt like, except like something was very wrong of course.

    Brrrrrrrrrrr freezing

When I flew from Australia to New Zealand it was very stormy and was quite disconcerting feeling how much a 747 can be thrown around in the air, a woman in the middle aisle was clutching a bible, crying her eyes out and many others were looking very nervous, I don't mind admitting that I felt pretty unnerved myself. However, the worst turbulence I ever felt was on a flight from Malaga in Spain back to the UK but oddly enough ( and due to the earlier experience ) I kind of enjoyed that one cool

How about you D, ever had a scary flying experience?
