Since we didn't have one for 2009, might as well make one for 2010:

    "Daybreak" - Daybreakers
"End Titles" - The Last Airbender
"Fireplaces Escape" - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
"The Traveling Montage" - The Wolfman
"Alice's Theme" and "Alice Decides" - Alice in Wonderland
"Time to Go Home" - Voyage of the Dawn Treader
"Finale" and "End Titles" - Tron Legacy

    Anything else?

  1. A few from me... (as opposed to the many other people who post under this moniker)...

    'The Rehearsal' (The King's Speech)
'Resurrection' (Daybreakers) (along with half the rest of the album)
'Lovegoods' and 'Farewell to Dobby' (HP 7.1)
'The Truth About Ruth' (Ghost Writer)

    Ummm...

'Number One Leader' & 'Farewell' (The Special Relationship)
    'Intriguing Possibilities' (The Social Network)

    Ummm...

    'Waiting for a Train' (Inception)

    Ummm...

I've been meaning to listen 'How to Drain Your Dragon', and I do like the cue from Wolfman listed above, but was there anything else that came out this year? The year's looking pretty slim to me so far.

My theory is we've been punished with a lean year for managing to not give Chris Gordon an Oscar, and for looking the other way as a John Corigliano score was tossed.

Nope... that's it! That's the winner! wink

I'll come up with some more tomorrow... I have a list but I don't know where it is.

  2. Great thread. These are good for me when I want to buy a track or two from an album rather than the whole thing. The cues I've enjoyed most this year are:

FORBIDDEN FRIENDSHIP from How to Train Your Dragon
ROMANTIC FLIGHT from How to Train Your Dragon
COMING BACK AROUND from How to Train Your Dragon
ALICE'S THEME from Alice in Wonderland
ADAGIO FOR TRON from Tron Legacy
    THE CANYON from 127 Hours
    RIVER CROSSING from True Grit
    THE KISS from Twilight: Eclipse
FAREWELL TO DOBBY from Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows part 1
FLOW LIKE WATER from The Last Airbender

Those are my picks. HtTYD is my favorite score of the year and those three cues are the best moments, imo, and all very different than one another, so I couldn't include just one cue from that score. I've heard other scores that I wouldn't say have any of the best cues of the year on them, but there are a lot of scores I haven't heard this year, so I'm looking forward to more of these lists!

Airbender Suite from The Last Airbender (JNH)
Flow Like Water from The Last Airbender (JNH)
Farewell To Dobby from Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows, Part 1 (Alexandre Desplat)
The Tear Heals from Tangled (Alan Menken)
Flynn Lives from TRON: Legacy (Daft Punk)

Great list Christian, my friend. I too think that FLOW LIKE WATER is the most sublime and exceptional single composition i've heard this year.

Wow, that Prince of Persia: the forgotten sands video game score was one of the most horrible experiences i went through this year!

    "The Prophet's Ascension"
Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight (VG)
    Music by James Hannigan

    HOw's this one?
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  3. When I looked through this year's music I realised there was A LOT of good stuff yet somehow I'd written off 2010 as an average year in my mind. I've limited my selections to 2 tracks per score, otherwise it would have been nearly every track from my first three choices! In a rough order of preference:

'Moving on' from LOST: THE FINAL SEASON
'Parallelocam' from LOST: THE FINAL SEASON

    'Flynn lives' from TRON
'The Game has changed' from TRON

    'Dream is collapsing' from INCEPTION
    'Time' from INCEPTION

'Flow like water' from THE LAST AIRBENDER

'Men at War' from THE PACIFIC

'See you tomorrow' from HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON
'Forbidden Friendship' from HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON

    'Meet Mr. Black' from PREDATORS

    'The Expendables' from THE EXPENDABLES

'The Ghost Writer' from THE GHOST

'Wolf suite Pt. 1' from THE WOLFMAN

'Hand covers bruise' from THE SOCIAL NETWORK

(Haven't listened to Karate Kid, Harry Potter or King's Speech yet but wouldn't be surprised if they made the list)

According to Roque's site, there will be a cd release of the score. Also, do not miss his 'Sad Trumpet Ballad' music. Another winner from Baños, and nominated for the 2010 Goya Awards.

Cheers. And I would recommend Balada Triste de Trompeta (I prefer the original translation, doesn't sound so daft somehow) - come to think of it, haven't I already recommended it somewhere?

  8. I'm seeing a few from El Mal Ajeno. What is this score like?

Erik mentioned one that I had totally forgotten but completely agree with - that being Horner's Horsemen music.

In case anyone's interested the top 5 scores mentioned so far are...

    1. "Flow Like Water"
    2. "Alice's Theme"
    3. "Forbidden Friendship"
    4. "The Truth About Ruth"
    5. "Farewell to Dobby" - "Wolf Suite part 1" - "Dream is Collapsing" (3 way tie)

punk To glory punk (Two steps from hell) -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_646M6y1k8

Since this hadn't been mentioned yet I thought it deserved a mention. It's not actually a film score, but it must be mentioned. My second favourite cue of 2010. Yeah baby! punk

Also not mentioned yet is Zack Hemsey's "Mind heist" used in the "Inception" trailer. Besides "To glory" this is the coolest track of the year. -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOJqicM6x84

And "Flying home" from "Kick-ass" has only been mentioned once, so I think it deserves another mention -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2rhnsl0u84

My favourite cue of the year though is "Coming back around" from "How to train your dragon" -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5KOERF_akc

This cue gets to me like nothing else. The excellent themes and the celtic mayhem at the end is just pure joy for me. I can't describe it by any other words than pure joy. "Forbidding friendship", "Test drive", "Romantic flight" and "See you tomorrow" are all extraordinary cues as well, but they dwarf in comparison to "Coming back around".
