Just wondering if anyone here knows ENT specialists in Skull Based Osteomyelitis (SBO) or Malignant Otitis Externa (MOE).
Or if someone knows a radiologist specializing in nuclear medicine (Gallium scans) used to monitor SBO/MOE.
Or if someone knows a bacteriologist studying Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and antibiotic treatments against it.

Why'd this subject take so long to come up here?? dizzy

Seriously though, I've no idea what this is about? Do you mind if I ask whether this is personal or academic, Ramesh?

  1. Sorry, I don't have any clinical contacts that could be of use. Or any useful clinical contacts!

    Tim,
My dad is being treated for SBO/MOE and it's not looking good. His doctor doesn't seem to be confident of what to do next. It's very confusing. I'm hoping someone has come across a similar case and has successfully been cured.

    Alan,
That's ok. I'm searching PubMed articles and I see a bunch of recent papers from UK. I'll email the authors.

Just wanted to update that things seem to be getting better. I had many useful comments from doctors across US and UK, and authors of research papers. That helped us find a doctor who was experienced in this situation (the previous doctor was confused). I also found it useful to read up a lot of papers on PubMed on this topic.
    *fingers crossed*

Yeah, I was initially skeptical if doctors would even comment on such a case without seeing a patient. But many of them were very helpful sharing their guidelines and experiences. I didn't have to use any connections (aside from contacting my physician here). It did help that my university had subscription to medical journals so I could read the recent papers and procure others through the inter-library loan.
It angers me a bit to see how the previous doctors missed a number of things that led to the situation getting serious. There were specific caveats in papers that were ignored.

Anyways, we're hoping that he responds well to the current treatment. It's a long road. Thanks for your good wishes.
