  1. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SCREAMWORKS RECORDS LAUNCHES WITH THE RELEASE OF STAKE LAND

The New Division of Moviescore Media Will Be Devoted Exclusively to Music From Horror Films

(May 9, 2011- New York, NY) – Moviescore Media (www.moviescoremedia.com) is proud to announce the launch of Screamworks Records, a new division dedicated to releasing horror film music. The first release from the label will be Stake Land, composed by Jeff Grace. Future releases from Screamworks Records will include Dawning (Nathaniel Levisay), Heartless (David Julyan) and The Man Who Collected Food (Daniel Alcheh).

“In the world of film music, some of the most clever, inventive and outright exciting scores are written for horror films. Screamworks Records is our answer to that, and our aim is to reach both soundtrack aficionados and horror movie buffs with our new brand. Stake Land is a perfect choice for our first release: an acclaimed film and a great score by one of the most talented genre composers out there,” said MovieScore Media’s producer, Mikael Carlsson.

In her review of Stake Land Alissa Simon of Variety described, “Also standing out among the strong craft credits is Jeff Grace's evocative score, which incorporates spirituals and traditional folk tunes.”

Jeff Grace is a composer working for film, concert and stage. His compositions have been performed by the Flux Quartet, Bulgarica Philharmonia, Valentina Farcas (Berlin Comic Opera), members of the New York Metropolitan Opera, and the New York Philharmonic orchestras. Grace’s film projects include Meek’s Cutoff, The Innkeepers, The House of the Devil, I Sell The Dead, The Last Winter, and Liberty Kid. Several of Jeff's scores are available from Moviescore Media.

1998 marked the beginning of Jeff’s film and television music career working as a composer and producer at the New York music house, Ruggieri Music. Jeff was also assistant to Legendary jazz composer/arranger Gil Goldstein working on projects for such artists as Pat Metheny and Roy Hargrove. From 2001 to 2004 Jeff was an assistant to Academy Award winning composer Howard Shore working on the three films of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Martin Scorsese’s The Gangs of New York, David Cronenberg’s Spider, David Fincher’s Panic Room, and Frank Oz’s The Score.
In a fierce, alternative vision of America’s bleak future, a young boy is about to learn how cruel the world can be. Martin was a normal teenage boy before the country collapsed in an empty pit of economic and political disaster.

And from the ashes rose a new breed of terror. A vampire epidemic has swept across what is left of the nation’s abandoned towns and cities, and it’s up to Mister, a death dealing, rogue vampire hunter, to get Martin safely north to Canada, the continent’s New Eden.
    Welcome to Stake Land, kid...

The first release on the new Screamworks Record label is anything but a typical horror score. “What's disappointing is that too many people come along and make the most basic decisions and opt for quick meaningless exploitation and that's what gives horror movies a bad name,” said the film’s director/co-writer Jim Mickle. “But there's actually an incredibly loyal audience who loves every form of the genre, and who appreciate a different approach to the tools of horror filmmaking. Often times that just means looking back outside the genre for inspiration.”

Dark Sky Films presents Stake Land. Stake Land – Original Soundtrack from Screamworks Records will be available digitally and in stores on May 24, 2011. Also available from Moviescore Media are Jeff Grace’s scores for The Last Winter, I Sell the Dead, and The House of the Devil. Future releases from Screamworks Records will include Dawning (Nathaniel Levisay), Heartless (David Julyan) and The Man Who Collected Food (Daniel Alcheh).

  2. Sorry Mikael, but I have an illogically vigorous dislike of the name Screamworks Records.

I'm wondering WHY you had to create a NEW label instead of releasing these on your MovieScore Media label. Will someone else be over seeing the Screamworks label?

Thanks for all the nice comments. LOL. Kidding ;-)

The idea is to think a little out-of-the-box - that box being the soundtrack fanbase where we of course by now has a fairly solid name as MovieScore Media (although after +100 releases there are still a lot of people who never heard of us...)

With Screamworks we'd like to target and expand into the horror film fanbase and we wanted to do that with a new brand. We hope that we will keep our MSM fans (all releases will be cross-promoted via the regular moviescoremedia.com web site) when we do a horror release, but we also want to attract another type of potential customer.

A bit too similar to Dreamworks. Something original would have been better, IMO.

I'm guessing that was the intention.
