What great piano solos can you recommend, especially stuff you can fall asleep to?

Desplat and Rombi immediately pop into my head but what is their best stuff?

  1. You mean entire cues, or cues with solos in them?
The views and opinions of Ford A. Thaxton are his own and do not necessarily reflect the ones of ANYONE else.

I don't think this is exactly what you mean Ant but by gods this piece was written by one of the all time great tune-smiths and I adore it...

  2. Pretty much anything and everything Thomas Newman writes.
  3. I don't think I could fall asleep to this one, but I would recommend Mr.Hisaishi's pieces.
    In particular:
    - The Wind of Life (Youtube)
    - Summer (Youtube)
    - Friends ()Youtube

Also, most of Jan A.P. Kaczmarek work could fit in this category as well (Hachi, Finding Neverland, The Visitor, to name a few...)

Giacchino's Up and Desplat's Luzhin Defence come to mind immediately. Also The Meadow from the New Moon song album.
  4. I've just been listening to Out of Africa and 'Have You Got a Story For Me' has a really beautiful solo.

Lost is overflowing with great Piano writing but of course you know that better than anyone Anthony!

Hmmm I can't tell you names of the solos but I can tell you the composer. Our very own Demetris writes wonderful piano solos.

  5. Some favorite composers with nice piano solos: Joe Hisaishi, Ludovico Einaudi and Jan A.P. Kaczmarek
That's the beauty of music. They can't take that away from you. (Andy Dufresne)

I absolutely love all the piano solos that Mozdzer played for works by Preisner and Kaczmarek, things by Craig Armstrong, Tenmon, a lot of piano orientated Japanese scores etc. But my personal favorite is the piano theme from Ryuichi Sakamoto's Tony Takitani:

Ta for the reminder. I've had the Sakamoto score on my 'to get' list for far too long now.
