NP: Hamlet Fantasy Overture TCHAIKOVSKY This work was included on the third lp I ever purchased. It is a good reading of what Tchaikovsky felt about Hamlet. This new version has a quicker pace which I like.

William my first encounter with Mahler was his first. Bernstein conducted the N.Y. Philharmonic. The Blumine wasn't included. I recently picked up a 16CD set of his works. It was released by EMI and I got it for under $30.

Hehe, haven't heard it before, Thor? It's not as obscure as you might think. It's one of the strangest internet memes that got big; some anime girl spinning a leek around (yes, you heard right): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wnE4vF9CQ4

Later a techno version was made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mdMb6bRXt4

Then the original performances got big,

And a live techno version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i8VM_EooCs

And then an official music video inspired by a Saturday night live sketch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgrGRcjyzVw

It's truly insane, and admittedly very catchy.

I would love to hear John Williams take on RVW's symphonies, JW has a real affinity for his music.

....on the other hand I'd rather he DIDN'T give up the day job. wink

NP: MUSIC FOR CELLO AND PIANO (Sergei Prokofiev/David Ward-Steinman)

The only recording John Williams ever made as a classical pianist, with Edgar Lustgarten on cello, ca. mid 70's. The music is quite challenging at times, but it's a wonderful performance and testament to Williams' piano skills.

    Me too. beer

I'm not usually into songs, but when voices are used more like instruments as in this piece I often find that it works really well.

No worries. A bit too weird is it? Perhaps you just need to play it a little, as it's the kind of piece that gets ingrained in your mind after a while.

Practically an Alan Parsons Project album, this musical nonetheless bears Woolfson's distinct melodies. Grandiose, melancholic, beautiful.
