NP : THE CAT - Jimmy Smith

Great stuff! The superb version of Elmer Bernstein's The Carpetbaggers will be familiar to many Brits as the theme to The Money Program as it's this version that is used. cool

    Winter poem (Secret garden)

This is my no.1 new age group. Holy crap I love this duo's music! Been 6 damn years since their last instrumental album, so this is about freaking time. Their last album was 4 years ago and was a song album with the cheesiest songs you can possibly imagine, so that was a waste. All their other albums are perfection though.

Indeed. So sad that they followed up with two vastly inferior albums

Sadly, this is true. I'm hoping that the new Les Friction album could be better than those two.

Last play before I finally go to bed...

NP: SIMPLE THINGS - ZERO 7

Feels like quite a while since I last played this. Absolutely wonderful stuff though - some of the most incredibly chilled-out music around. As a bonus, it brings back some lovely memories, so I can fall asleep with a smile on my face. Aww. kiss

    cool

NP: THE PRIVATE MUSIC OF... (Tangerine Dream)

There's some film music tracks here too, so it basically falls between this and the other thread. I really dig TD's 80's stuff.
    I am extremely serious.

NP : ANNA CALVI - Anna Calvi

Self titled album, this is great stuff, kind of Suzi Banshee vocals meets the music of Nick Cave meets Angelo Bedalamenti meets Duanne Eddy with a dose of Ennio Morricone thrown in for good measure, I'm really enjoying this.

    A LOT!

Morton Feldman - Orchestra (on mode 238 - edition #11 on their Feldman "line")

    http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/Dri … _id=415095

This is the sort of minimalism which I prefer over the high-profile type of minimalism by Philip Glass.
Morton Feldman belonged to the John Cage generation and explored musical boundaries regarding timbre, pitch modulations, runtime durations, graphic notations, aleatoric performance techniques, etc.

The above link gives a little more info, but I wish to highlight this volume as particularly significant since all 5 works are world premiere recordings and represent 25% of Feldman's entire orchestral output.

[as an aside, I bring Morton Feldman to this thread because he was originally the composer for Jack Garfein's 1961 film SOMETHING WILD, but Feldman's music was ultimately rejected and its replacement score was by none other than Aaron Copland]

    NP - 2Cellos

I like it. I love the vibrant and expressive celli performance from the duo. Relatively short album, with good pop song choices highlighted by excellent arrangements.

NP : LIONESS : HIDDEN TREASURES - Amy Winehouse

Nowhere near the great quality of her first two albums but under the circumstances that is to be expected, still, there's some mighty fine tracks on this, I particularly like the Reggae slant on 'Our Day Will Come' and a slightly 'drum and bass' version of 'The Girl From Ipanema' ....and believe me, it works.

Your observation is correct. My favorite horn player is principal horn, there. His playing is what has inspired me to pursue a career in performance. Plus, I've been to NYC to see the orchestra live 3 times and they are absolutely fantastic.
