Listening to a new recording I got last night. The London by Vaughan Williams conducted by Richard Hickox. Pure heaven. What do I do with my Boult?

Thanks for the recommendation. I'm not sure I'll be able to purchase it right now, but I'll keep it on my to-buy list.

I can actually get a lot of the music for free on Amazon Prime, and perhaps assemble a playlist.
Bach's music is heartless and robotic.

I've been listening to a lot of Poulenc lately. His chamber music in particular just resonates with me at this point in my life.

    NP: BIONIC ORCHESTRA (Francis Rimbert)

Easy-listening electronica from the late 70s by JMJ's regular co-hort. Terribly cheesy, but also terribly entertaining.
    I am extremely serious.
  2. Yeah, Didier Marouani (Space) was another "hero" of that kind of disco electronica. It was everywhere back then, in TV game shows, TV scores, commercials, and adult films.

I believe that kind of soapy electronic music is responsible for the bad reputation, electronic music long had with the general public.

Well, it's received somewhat of a resurgence in popularity. I know there's great interest in British library music by Alan Hawkshaw and the like, so this kind of music belongs somewhat in the same category. There's a lot of great stuff in the April Orchestra series, for example, including Rimbert's own installments.
    I am extremely serious.

Yes I do. I enjoy some jazz, big band material which I use to arrange in college, 50's material such as Les Baxter, Sauter Finegan, and Dick Schory, Scott Joplin, Emerson Lake and Palmer.

This just gave me an idea. What about fancy restaurants that employed DJs, not to blare dance music, but to move through stylish jazz, classical, film selections. Might already be a thing, but how cool would it be to have a raised podium with an old fellow with an encyclopedic knowledge of music dishing out the tunes.

And "sdtom" already sounds like a stage name.

  3. NP: The Eye OF Wendor: Prophecies (1978) - Mandalaband / David Rohl

The ambitious but ultimately flawed music project based upon a story plagiarizing the Lord of the Rings. Musicians of Barclay James Harvest, The Moody Blues among others took part in it. Some parts are quite beautiful.
David Rohl is an Englishman of German decent, music engineer and esoteric Egyptologist.

NP: RIMSKY-KORSAKOV NIGHT ON MOUNT TRIGLAV (SYMPHONIC PICTURE) This was an orchestral re-write of the third act of his opera Mlada. While his pinnacle was Scheherazade this work is worthy of a listen or two.
