NP: THE ENDLESS RIVER (Pink Floyd)

I liked this from the get-go, but enjoying it more and more.
    I am extremely serious.
  1. It's great. Good thing this material didn't vanish in the vaults. The producers did an amazing job, editing a coherent album from stuff that was never meant to become one.

Plus some additional, new material by Gilmour and Mason, superimposed on the old stuff.

Tim I very much enjoy your participation on the FSM lassical thead I started. I so much ant to talk about this important part of the music world. You're one of the few who understand. I'm in a Shostakovich mode and really enjoying his 5th Symphony a complex but powerful piece of music. I know you like it too. it's a gloomy day hee in Minneapolis so my next listen will be the 6th of Beethoven. I have a recording on Telarc, who is known for good material.

That's a great offer, Tom, thanks! Alas, I'm in the same position as you. I want to minimize my physical collection, so I've also considered offering things for free here (only pay for shipping). We live in that kind of time!

I hate to throw them away too and to transfer them to a digital file is possible but it would make a nice winter project for me. If you and I could set up a sharing system via transfer system I know we could do it. /with 3000 CD's I am looking for early JW. I have a pretty rare 2 CD set of early Herrmann cues from the CBS library.

A ground breaking album. A groovy and soulful blend of analogue and electronic equipment.

    listen to more classical music!
  3. NP: Christus Apollo - Jerry Goldsmith

Music for Orchestra and the Christus Apollo Oratorio (of sorts) with texts by Ray Bradbury, read by Anthony Hopkins, show the modernist concert hall Goldsmith. Fireworks is more in the line with his film composing. Not an easy but an interesting album at least.

I like Music for Orchestra quite a bit. It's beautifully structured and sounds like Goldsmith all the way (especially his trademarked brass writing). Not a fan of Christus Apollo. Fireworks kinda feels lightweight after the two before it but has its charms.

there is a huge difference between a classical work from a classical composer and a classical work from a film composer. The orchestrations are far more complex. Listen to as an example Berlioz Symphony Fantastique.

NP: RACHMANINOFF PIANO CONCERTO 2. It is performed by Boris Giltburg with the Royal Scottish Orchestra. The work itself has appeared in countless films the one that comes to mind for me is the Marilyn Monroe film Seven Year Itch. I call it a war horse but it is an easy listen.

  4. NP: Love (2006) - The Beatles

The soundtrack of the Cirque du Soleil musical show. Some of the remixes George Martin has provided here are really intriguing.

    Volker
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  5. NP: Force Majeure (1979) - Tangerine Dream

Edgar Froese long dreamt of a joint concert by Pink Floyd and Tangerine Dream. This album ventures into progressive rock territory and gives a pretty good impression what such a project would have been like.
