I don't really care much for Wagner. I'd rather listen to his successor, Richard Strauss.

I agree with you on Strauss over Wagner. However, Wagner is a learning tool that early Hollywood composers studied (leitmotif ex.).

A rather obscure historical recording of Edmund Rubbra performing his 4th symphony. So far it is all notes to me that don't mean much.

Oh, for sure. As far as influence goes, Wagner is perhaps the most important composer who ever lived.

I also have to throw Huppertz into that mix even though he was influenced by Wagner also he had his own ideas which Max and Erich adapted.

Returning to my roots and listening to a bunch of piano music. Started with Beethoven's piano sonatas and now I'm listening to some of Haydn's. A good chunk of this music I performed as a kid so it feels like I'm reliving my glory days, haha.

I jumped yesterday to some organ music of transcriptions for organ by the soloist. I found the final movement of Scheherazade to be to my liking.

This one has turned out to be a real sleeper in that the orchestra produces some real jazz and not he concert style you normally hear.Bernstein really provided a bridge between classical and film/Broadway.

    NP: METAMORPHOSES (Jean Michel Jarre)

I've always liked this album, but in recent years, it's become one of my JMJ favourites!
    I am extremely serious.
  2. It's brilliant and I listened to it just about a week ago. I paired it with Vangelis' Voices. Both albums contain wonderful vocal tracks.
