  1. HENRY JACKMAN’S ORCHESTRAL AND LATIN SOUNDS ENHANCE DREAMWORKS ANIMATION’S “PUSS IN BOOTS”

Sony Music is pleased to announce the release of the original soundtrack of the new DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. (Nasdaq: DWA) film Puss in Boots, which is set to be released in theatres on October 28th in 3D and IMAX 3D.

Long before he even met Shrek, the notorious fighter, lover and outlaw Puss in Boots becomes a hero when he sets off on an adventure with the tough and street smart Kitty Softpaws and the mastermind Humpty Dumpty to save his town. This is the true story of The Cat, The Myth, The Legend…The Boots.

The film is directed by Chris Miller (Shrek the Third), and features the voices of Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Bob Thornton and Amy Sedaris.

A notorious fighter and lover, a rebel with a thirst for adventure who always lands on his feet as a cat should, Puss goes in search of treasure in a castle in the sky, aided by Humpty Dumpty and Kitty Softpaws. His mortal enemies are Jack and Jill, two outlaws who discover an ancient power which threatens the world.

To provide music to suit the character of the swaggering Puss and the voices of arch-Latino Banderas and Hayek, composer Henry Jackman used the folk instruments of traditional Latin music. His movie score also pays homage to the Spanish composer Manuel de Falla, who is best-known for his nocturne for piano and orchestra Nights in the Gardens of Spain and the ballet music for The Three-Cornered Hat. Jackman blended guitars and Latin percussion with an orchestral sound that shows the Impressionist influences of Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel.

Jackman’s recent film scores include “X-Men: First Class” for director Matthew Vaughn and the animated feature “Winnie The Pooh.” His other credits include “Kick-Ass,” “Gulliver's Travels,” “Monsters vs. Aliens” (DreamWorks Animation), and “Henry IV.”

Prior to his film music career, Jackman spent several years in the record industry, collaborating with producer Trevor Horn on the Art of Noise album "The Seduction of Claude Debussy." Jackman also worked with Seal, co-writing and producing "This Could Be Heaven" for the motion picture "The Family Man." This gained the attention of prominent film composers Hans Zimmer and John Powell, and Jackman received additional music credits on their scores to: “The Dark Knight,” “The Da Vinci Code,” “Kung Fu Panda,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End”, “Hancock,” “It's Complicated,” “The Holiday,” and “The Simpsons Movie.”

The album includes two tracks from Mexican guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela. A fixture on the world music circuit, they are known for their nimble-fingered guitar work and diverse background.

For the sake of balance I may just write something on them.

Got my Shrubs cordial in (a Sussex specialty), and some fresh rum, so I'm sorted for the evening.

It's a shame Alan won't do any reviews this evening. I tend to think I write rather better on a glass.
    I'm on fire after two.
    I' m bloody Pullitzer-worthy after three!

I do a lot of deleting the day after.

Heard a preview of this score, and it's massive fun!
Love the Rodrigo & Gabriela tracks again (even if they are from previous albums).
The mood of the album is like Zorro on crack, and I love it.
    A definite buy for me!
