  1. It is interesting that on the one hand Hilary Clinton says, "...when ideas are blocked, information deleted, conversations stifled, and people constrained in their choices, the Internet is diminished for all of us..." and the head of the MPAA is of the opinion that, "...why our online censorship can't be like China?", you have to wonder what the MPAA are really after.

It is definitely a case of focusing on short-term profits because they are too stubborn to invest in research to profit from the potentials of the new innovative technological advances.

The article highlighted well how the industry have always been keen to shout how technological advances are going to be the death of their industry. But they will survive this time too.

But trying to stifle advances now will only strangle another possible avenue of revenue...unless they actually do know the potential but they want to suppress now in order to catch up and introduce the innovations themselves later but on their own terms.

Hollywood has been successful and will continue to do so. While I can't back up the statistics I'd guess the 3D experience has been very popular for them.

The youtuber Totalbiscuit made a good video about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhwuXNv8fJM

SOPA is bad. It means that if one of us posts something "illegal" in this forums. Maintitles.net can be blocked in the USA.

Here's a very good TED talk explaining why SOPA and PIPA are bad ideas:

Should I say this quietly? Thanks for sharing the video - it is very informative.

ACTA however is going to silently come into full force while everybody was looking the other way.
And ACTA is FAR more far-reaching than SOPA would ever hope (it's just not exclusively geared towards protecting Hollywood interests).

    So worry.
    Worry deeply and gravely.
