  1. Due to some political issues, the Krakow Festival Bureau has lost a lot of money for their annual operations this year. This means that, as the vicepresident of Krakow said "It's 95% sure that the film music festival won't take place this year."

Polish film music websites have started an action defending the festival, which has already included guests like Howard Shore, Joe Hisaishi and - twice - Tan Dun. If you want to support it and please do support this great event, you can do it by liking and commenting on the festival's official Facebook page, linked here:

Please, all of you who are on Facebook help the only film music festival (a huge event promoting the genre) in our part of Europe! I know that the esteemed SST members from this forum regularly attend the festival, so also whoever's present on SST pass the news on.

  2. If it won't happen this year, the festival is lost for good.

    Oh man, that is sad!

What do I need to post. I don't understand anything that is said there.

  3. This isn't just directed at this specific festival but what does liking a Facebook page actually achieve?
The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn
  4. In this case it helps get their statistics better.

What has to be commented is the news including "Wiceprezydent Sroka". They have to know that the festival has a lot of supporters. Liking their page gives them a leverage too.

I am very, very wary of hoping that any internet action will achieve anything at all (it never has before, unless backed up by a very real- time, reality and funds based campaign), but I'll weigh in.

I really don't want to be negative, Pawel, and I am VERY sorry that the festival is in trouble. I think Polish cinema and film composers have been a boon to European cinema for many decades, so it's very sad to see politics messing it up.
    What happened anyway?

  5. Budgetary cuts. Just as banal as it is. They took the money away from the organizers, by a mere vote in the city council.

This idea actually came from a guy I know and who is responsible for the program of the festival.

Yeah. Well. There IS a crisis going on.
I put my vote in, but honestly I don't hold out any hope at all.

Unless the festival will be able to draw some big (and I mean BIG) ass sponsors, it's doomed.
(I had to smile very wryly when I read a comment on that page professing dismay that this festival faced cancellation, yet "the Coca Cola festival didn't"... slant )

I have to agree that joining a facebook group may not have any influence over the decision but an official petition to the mayor of Krakow may. There is one organized online already and it would be extremely useful if we could have more people signing it.

    http://www.petycje.pl/petycjePodglad.php?petycjeid=8311

INSTRUCTIONS (because the thing is in Polish)

    1. Go to the website in the URL above
    2. Scroll down through the block of text (reasoning behind not cancelling the festival)
    3. Click 'Popieram petycję - jestem ZA' ('I'm for the notion')
    4. Fill in the form ('Imię i nazwisko' - Name; 'Miejsce zamieszkania' - place of residence; 'Krótki komentarz' - short comment; 'Adres email' - self explanatory)
    5. You've got to give your real email address as you'll get a confirmation link sent to it. Your address is invisible to the people browsing the page by default.
    6. Go to your mailbox and click the first long link in the message from petycje.pl
    5. Input the verification code from the box

    Thank you!
