I totally forgot how much four note danger motif is littered throughout Horner's The Perfect Storm. vomit Great score still but I'll be skipping "Coast Guard Rescue" from now on.

Oh honestly. It's several seconds in a 9-10 minute piece. Cut the guy some slack.

More than several seconds, Kevin! And it's more than enough to take me out of the listening experience completely!

    Brave - Patrick Doyle

Liked it more in the film I think, though there are some strong moments. It's just that the album has no real flow with so many fits and starts. I actually find it a quite irritating listening experience.

    Moving onto...

NP: Quantum of Solace - David Arnold

Let's see if this one impresses this time.

    -Erik-

How did it work this time?
I don't think it's that much better than CASINO ROYALE, but I liked the album a bit more than CASINO, which always wore me down about half way through.

And Quantum doesn't ware you down? There's tons of action in the first 20-25 minutes of the album. And the recording is so... brash! Who's recording Arnold's music these days because it's grating!

After my latest listen and still think Tomorrow Never Dies and Casino Royale are the best Arnold Bond score. Hell, I'd even put The World Is Not Enough above Quantum just for "Come in 007, Your Time Is Up" alone.

Quantum isn't bad but I don't hear what makes it so great. IMO, Lennertz's video game is score to Quantum is better than Arnold's score.

A score much greater than the movie it accompanied.

I liked the movie. However, I felt the film was a bit overscored.

Don't like this. I've given it a few chances already and it's pretty unremarkable. I'd rather hear his other horror stuff.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture - Jerry Goldsmith

I am so thrilled with this new release. I've been pretty outspoken in my criticism of a lot of chronological-and-complete releases over the years but this one hits the target spectacularly. One of the greatest of film scores finally has the release it deserves.

I hear most of these scores through bad ipod headphones, so I don't really have an ear for the colour of a recording, but as for the rest, you may be right. It sometimes depends on what time of day/month/year you hear these things. I remember QOS had nothing as strong as 'African Rundown', but on the other hand I got to the end of the album about the time I had my fill of the music.

The last cue, with the Zimmer's Batman-like ostinato and beautiful piano and string theme on top (called "it's hard to believe, isn't it?") it's quite good and the only actually listenable bit of music on this one! Why isn't the rest of the score like this, why?

Il Lungo Silenzio - Ennio Morricone

Fabulously dynamic main title is the highlight, the rest is slightly repetitive suspense music with lighter moments at either end the highlight.

Total lack of any melody, harsh and noisy electronics all over the place, sampled electric guitars, i was looking at the player to see if i was accidentally listening ot Djawadi. Very dissapointing to see JNH trying to sound like one of Zimmer's RC collaborators.

I don't have a personal opinion as I've not heard it. You'd have thought he'd at least try to emulate Powell's scores?

Nothing in there reminiscent of Powell's superior musical universe for the franchise. Now with the new reboot, they're giving it a wholly different sound it seems; Btw it's the first time in its history i believe, that Hollywood is so dry of inspiration that not only they're remaking everything, but they're also repeating themselves and calling it...reboot! What's next, Jurassic Park and Star Wars Reboots?

Jurassic Park 4 is scheduled for 2014 but its not a reboot...

I'm not sure its a lack of inspiration, there are plenty of great scripts and story ideas that never get made, rather they're obsessed with the idea that previously known franchises are more likely to make money...so they're scared to do anything too new or different.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!

Yeah i heard about that; but remakes, sequels, prequels etc, were always a trend for Hollywood. But now the whole reboot thingy is a bit worrying, imo. I mean, as much as liked the new spiderman, did we really need a spiderman reboot so soon? Same with Bourne.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  6. Bourne is not being rebooted, it's a continuation of the story, but with another Treadstone agent. It's the fourth movie of the saga, and there's rumours of a fifth movie with Bourne and the new agent.
