For over a year now I've had to play hush, hush on it, but it's finally out.
Torn Music (Hubai), the first book specifically on rejected scores, is for sale. It goes into details on the films and rejected scores of select titles. Within each, it also brings up relevent other rejected scores -- in fact, there are about 25 or more titles I didn't even know about.
I was asked to review the book, and accepted, marking my breif return to reviewing on MainTitles. Expect the review in about a week.
Yours truly is name/or website can be found over 13 times in the book.

If it's an insight into that thing we rarely glimpse, the dramaturgic reasons for rejection ('Harvey felt this type of score made the film too ________, particularly in the scene of character X's redemption'), it would be a valuable text. Otherwise, you'd have to think there's more essential books still to be written on the subject of music that IS used. (There are still very few books on the process of score development, that take you through that creative process.)A butterfly thinks therefore I am -

Well done on being a source for the book. Happy that you'll review the book. A pity you won't review anything else anymore. Looking forward to it!Kazoo -

I think it could be quite interesting, as long as it focuses on scores rejected for genuine artistic reasons (2001, Chinatown et al) and looks at what that music didn't give the filmmakers as opposed to whatever it was they did find in the final music.
If it's just about the ones rejected because studios are panicking due to poor test screenings then it's hard to know exactly what could be said that's interesting, since the replacement score is usually very similar in concept and execution to the one it replaces. I dare say mention will be made of Troy and Timeline, for instance, but Horner and Tyler respectively took pretty much the same approach as Yared and Goldsmith had done, so what could really be said about that? -

Just had an email from Amazon concerning the book TORN MUSIC:
"We regret to inform you that we have been unable to source the [book]...Our supplier has informed us that this item is no longer available. This item has now been cancelled from your order."
So my order has been rejected? How appropriate! The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

That took a while! I remember the writer asked me to shed some light on some (Dutch) rejected scores and things unknown to him. Justin, was any of that included? -

I'm in the process of giving the book a thorough read to make sure the review is representative of the book, but so far it's almost exclusively U.S. rejected scores, U.S. rescores. But there is decent amount, thus far, of films being rescored overseas.
I do know some original chapters were replaced with others, as information, and new rejected scores came to light when I would discover them on my site, or via his own research, some not everything got in. If the Dutch stuff isn't, it might have gotten nixed.
It's very informative. Hell, I'm learning things. It's crazy how sometimes a film will get a new score in multiple different countries. Or even entire TV series will be rescored overseas. Though not covered in the book, "CHiPs", for example, was rescored in another country (I think it was China or Japan) and oddly enough -- as I recall -- that got a CD release before FSM made Volume 1.The views and opinions of Ford A. Okay, he replied -- not sure what is going on. The publisher isn't showing any problems, the book is doing well.
Did you order Amazon UK? Try the regular U.S. versiopn. Try alternative purchasers like Books-A-Million, Barnes & Noble, the publisher I linked above, etc.
