Listening to Boxtrolls now, is it just me or is the main motif very similar to one from Elfman's Frankenweenie?
In response to the mickey-mousing discussion above...while there's not much mickey-mousing per se, i.e. slapstick music that constantly changes direction and such, there certainly is a lot of silly/quirky waltz stuff going on which creates much of the same effect and is frankly a bit of a nuisance. There's some good stuff in here, especially the full-on action cues like "Rooftop Chase", but it's far from being one of those scores where you say "it could easily be for a live-action film". -

Yes, that about sums up my thoughts. It has its moments, but not enough of them. Much of it sounds like it might come from Game of Thrones or something - Marianelli doesn't always write music that engages me, but I never thought he'd write something so generic. -

I'm glad he didn't. Marianelli has been "off his mark" for a couple of years now, and I'm fairly confident he would have created something far more generic for IT than Wallfisch did. He needs to stop doing "poor emulations" of trend sounds, and get back to what he knows best.I am extremely serious. -
