Reading the review I'm also interested in this score very much. Marianelli and Beethoven can't be bad!

I was reading an interview with Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe and was surprised to read he listened to Elegy for Dunkirk from Atonement to prepare for some emotional scene in the movie. A very good choice, I must say!

It'd be SUCH a greater choice if he actually didn't prepare for a crap instead; wink

  1. Marianelli should do a HARRY POTTER film himself.

He was indeed considered for the 5th film but Yates insisted bringing Hooper.

I don't understand Marianelli outside his league trying to sound like Beethoven.

Well indeed, there are many ways in which to excuse composers; i usually don't care that much, i just decide whether i want to listen to the end result or not.

Yes. We mustn't forget that the film explains most of the musical choices a composer makes!

You didn't like how he added the overpass noise into Beethoven's 3rd?
You didn't like the playing of the first movement of the 3rd with only two strings?

I do think this was an excellent example of how well his score worked in the film. In fact I enjoyed it more watching the film than as a stand alone experience. But remember I grew up with Beethoven's Third.

    The cover or the music?
    I am extremely serious.
  5. I understand the music is a bit big for the film, but what I'm hearing in those clips will indeed be a gorgeous album. It's interesting that Amenebar - who normally composes for his own films - felt he needed a dedicated professional composer for this one.

And was THE SOLOIST bad? I am still meaning to check it out, but the concept, of a composer interacting with classical standards, seemed like it would produce really interesting work. (Mind you, demetris's favour turns like a knife sometimes!)

No, i don't think it will in this case my friend. I've given it too much effort. My problem with it is that it's messy and pales in comparison with the Beethoven material. I am sure the director had a lot to do with it, but Dario seems very out of his waters with this one.

Finally news about AGORA's music! I've been expecting this for quite some time now. Amenabar is an excellent composer - on chamber music level. So I'm thrilled he brought Marianelli in for this epic historic film. Highly expected :-). Now if only there was a tracklisting with trackdurations...
