Yared has written the music for Anthony Minghella's "The No 1 Ladies' Detective Agency", a tv movie premiering on BBC this Sunday (and which has been greenlit as a 13-part series, though I don't suppose Yared will score that). Can't find anything which suggests there's a CD in the works.

I thought the film was okay, maybe because I don't watch much horror / spooky stuff for a long time. The score was very generic.

  1. I thought it was a pretty good score actually. It didn't make a great album, but Yared certainly wasn't relying on tricks he'd used a thousand times before.

I very much doubt a film called SHANGHAI will call for a similar score though. I think something a bit more traveloguish will be in order.

New compilation cd out, due September 9. Released from Naive in what appears to be a 2-disc set. Anyone who can find more details such as tracklisting and stuff, please post here:

Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  2. From the looks of things, there will be tracks from The English Patient, The Lives of Others, Cold Mountain, Betty Blue, The Talented Mr Ripley, Camille Claudel, The Lover and Azur et Asmar. It should be a good release - the sort of thing I would buy for a person who liked Yared's music but wasn't necessarily interested in hearing whole scores.

    Camille Claudel
    L'Amant

Performed by chamber orchestra La Sarabande, with soprano and bandoneon.

  6. Will be very interesting to hear what sections of BREAKING AND ENTERING he highlights for the concert, since so much of that score is performed by the Underworld group.

  7. Maybe they'll come to concert with Yared or Yared orchestrated their parts. That would be hard though.

Shouldn't be hard if they adapt some of the orchestrations. You can do everything with real instruments if you know your stuff and the musicians know theirs.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  8. Gabriel Yared is pretty under-rated. What happened with the Troy score is unforgiveable if you ask me...

But you don't hear orchestrated ambient often, do you? That said I really love the atmosphere of Breaking and Entering and I feel that using such a group was an inspired choice.
