Lost Horizon, the re-recording by Gerhardt, is one that I revisit often. Most of the time I don't get a lot of time as I have so many new recordings to evaluate and decide whether or not I'll review.

55 Days at Peking is a new release from La-La Land. This is a 2 CD set with a lot of previously released material.

Nominated for an Oscar for best song and score if that means anything. The winners that year were Tom Jones and Call Me Irresponsible

I think there's more previously unreleased material than previously released material!

I love that score, one of my favourite Hitchcock scores (even compared with the Herrmann ones). I have a good suite on the Alfred Hitcock Varese compilation that came out way back in the 80's, I think.
    I am extremely serious.

Last night I saw I Confess, and was of course enthralled by Tiomkin's score. I was very upset to discover that no soundtrack/rerecording has yet been released... Anyone else a fan of this score? I really hope someone decides to release it.

    I confess that I'm a fan of Tiomkin's "I Confess". smile

Overall, I prefer 1950's Alfred Hitchcock movies to be in black-and-white rather than color.
I may be in the minority about this, but color seems to add artifice to Hitch's productions.
My favorite Hitchcock films are "I Confess", "The Wrong Man" & "Psycho".

I also consider Tiomkin's scores for Hitchcock to fall unfairly in the shadow of the famous Hitchcock & Herrmann collaborations. I also like "Shadow Of A Doubt", too.
"Dial M For Murder" is probably my least favorite of the Hitchcock/Tiomkin pairings.

Agreed. That one well warrants a rerecording (the original recordng that's available is terrible).

You can't hear any audience noise at all - but since it's in the "LSO Live" series I guess it must have been recorded in the concert.

Film music, the London Symphony Orchestra and Dimitri Tiomkin were the topics of a live video web chat that took place earlier today. Host Tim Burden chatted with Richard Kaufman, Pat Russ, Warren Sherk, Jim Lochner and other film music experts about the LSO's new Tiomkin recording among other things.
