About time one of the all time great composers had his own thread, particularly as FSM's latest release is a 2 CD set of Land Of The Pharoahs
This is a great score and I'll definitely be ordering this one. -

Is that the Jack Hawkins/Joan Collins film?
I think Tiomkin's masterpiece was The Alamo. It's one of the best Westerns ever, and the music was perfect.
Tiomkin was once asked how he could write music for Westerns, having been born in Russia (the Ukraine, if I remember correctly). He replied that the Steppes were just like the prairies.....

Love Tiomkin's The Alamo which has one of the most heat rending melodies ever in The Green Leaves of Summer.
'Pharoahs' is a great score too, check out sound clips at FSM. -

This is an excellent starting point with Tiomkin as this was his first major score and an excellent one. Three more that have been recently released are Guns of Navarone, DOA, and High Noon. If you can find a copy of the RCA/Gerhardt release of his music this gives you a wonderful sampling."There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which can not fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance... that principle is contempt prior to investigation" Herbert Spencer
