Pretentious? Why? It's a psychological thriller about rivaling ballet dancers... how is that pretentious? confused

It's very standard Arronofsky, for anyone who's followed his career.

For his standards, it's probably one of his least pretentious projects.

Hmmm. I just rewatched the trailer, and I probably mixed it up with The Tempest (which is rather fucked up). I had this idea in my head that it was Black Swan. I must have been tipsy at that moment. Looks indeed not pretentious, but not so interesting either (The Wrestler wasn't as well). I like Nathalie Portman though.

I thought THE WRESTLER was brilliant btw; explored issues that haunt almost all humans at some (usually later) point in their lives, with great artistry and maturity.

To be honest, I was a little disappointed with THE WRESTLER (also seen within his standards and height of quality) due to the predictable nature of the plot and some surprisingly sentimental scenes. It certainly had that level of depth and realism to a certain extent, but I never emotionally connected with it.

Apple.com/trailers now features an 'exclusive music video' from BLACK SWAN, but as opposed to the Clint Mansell sneak preview I was hoping for, of a Tchaikovsky piece set to images of the film, it's a rather disjointed remix kinda thing with music that's probably from The Chemical Brothers?

    BLACK SWAN MUSIC VIDEO:
    http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox_ … blackswan/

The final credits at the end does say the following:

    Featuring new music from:

    Clint Mansell
    The Chemical Brothers
    Al Tourettes
    Jakes
    Kavsrave
    Pete Min
    Sepalcure (featuring Angelica Best)

Ouch... are we very sure the soundtrack release will feature just the Mansell score? freezing

  1. How much is Tchaikovsky?
Is this THE SOLOIST in a way? (In that there is a score, but you'd be hard pressed to separate it from the classical works at the core.)

You mean the pretentious fanmade video with swimming people? That's music from Black Swan? (can't find that music in the first-listen of the score).

Boy, have you woken up in the wrong direction today? wink It looks like footage from Black Swan, it's grainy and video-arty but doesn't look fan-made. Anyway i imagined it was from the movie despite the fact that it's not on the cd. Next it precedes on The Fountain and other stuff. I don't recognize that piece of music, i assume it's from Black Swan but i might be mistaken. Anyone?

Well, this site is part of a project set up by Clint Mansell in order to present fan-made short films set to his music, since he said to regularly receive such video's that he wanted to show to the world. The next video (published by him some months ago) is made by a girl from some political suppressed country, I believe, set to indeed music from The Fountain.

Since Black Swan isn't out yet, I imagine the music from the new video is not from Black Swan but some earlier project from Mansell, or it couldn't have been available to those who made it. Sorry to say, but to me it seems pretentious and not reaching the goal it's going for (the images are more funny then beautiful). The Fountain video, however, is quite exceptional if you ask me.

Hmm, it was a bit different than what I remembered... it not fan-video's, it's from (beginning) filmmakers, made as a visual element to his live shows. Here's how Clint explains it himself:

Still, the swimming pool one looks like fan-made to me...

  2. Black Swan the score was just as much Mansell's tour de force as the film was for Aronofsky. He deserves props for that.

More bad Mansell news... quite a shame, really.

    Clint Mansell Drops Source Code
    Chris Bacon will replace him

Contrary to the reports from September, former Poppie Clint Mansell will sadly now not be scoring Source Code for a repeat of his Moon collaboration with Duncan Jones. Devin Faraci picked up the news from Jones himself that poor timing had scuppered the plan, and the director later confirmed via his Twitter account that "We weren't able to work out a schedule so Clint could do the score in the end. He has been a very busy bee."
