New score for CLINT MANSELL announced for a release: STOKER (2013) http://www.amazon.com/Stoker-Clint-Mans … bsnr_42_93

Amazon UK also has the tracklisting:

    1. I'm Not Formed By Things That Are Of Myself Alone - Mia Wasikowska
    2. Becomes The Color - Emily Wells
    3. Happy Birthday (A Death In The Family)
    4. Uncle Charlie
    5. A Whistling Tune From A Lonely Man - Hudson Thames
    6. The Hunter And The Game
    7. Blossoming...
    8. Summer Wine - Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood
    9. A Family Affair
    10. Becoming...
    11. Duet - Sugar Vendil And Trevor Gureckis
    12. Crawford Institute (Family Secrets)
    13. Stride La Vampa (From Il Trovatore) - Viorica Cortez
    14. The Hunter Plays The Game
    15. In Full Bloom
    16. The Hunter Becomes The Game
    17. We Are Not Responsible For Who We Come To Be (Free)
    18. If I Ever Had A Heart - Emily Wells

...and Empire Magazine recently even reviewed the soundtrack album, so I'm quite surprised it'll take till march before you can purchase it:

Clint Mansell provides Park Chan-Wook’s English-language debut with a score that mixes charm and chills. Following Emily Wells’ ethereal Becomes The Colour, Mansell merges classical and modern in fluid fashion. Becoming is a stand-out, using piano as a tension generator and a source of beautiful melody. The climactic We Are Not Responsible For Who We Come To Be uses a solo vocal to arresting effect capping off another vivid work from Mansell.

By the way... where's the promised Philip Glass track?

FilmMusicReporter.com announced the tracklisting a three weeks ago. They say s"Duet" is by Glass. The two people credited above are probably just players in the piano-lead piece

You can now (legally) stream the full STOKER album here via soundcloud:
    http://www.blackbookmag.com/blackbook-e … Id=1.46682

It's an interesting work with not a consistent quality, but several very good moments and a score that keeps the interest throughout. Like Black Swan, it balances electronic dissonant soundscapes with a classical twist, in which approx. 75% is organic (with a leading role for piano and clarinet) that at times descends into sonic experiments that some might find excruciating ('The Hunter Plays The Game') yet is also recognisable from his earlier 'classic thriller' approach for Aronofsky. There is much to like here (the building piano piece 'Becoming' is another standout cue, next to the earlier mentioned 'In Full Bloom') but it'll especially appeal to the younger generation that doesn't mind Mansell's modern avant gardisms. I'm eager to hear how this all works within context of the film, because I'm sure it's on of those scores that grows in appreciation after having heard it in context.

What about 'Clint Mansell in the Beginning'?

First there was nothing. Then there was God. Then there was Clint Mansell. And the people of Earth rejoiced.

  9. The score is interesting, but not an easy listen. It's got a few recurring themes/motifs. On first listen I found it quite a harsh listen, but I've yet to explore it properly with headphones.

Yes (in a way), without Patti's vocals obviously. Though I've yet to work out whether the "Mercy Is"-theme is unique or a reprise of one of the score's themes. The score (overall) is much bigger though.

The orchestration of the score is along the same lines of the song - dark, brooding, heavy on strings especially Kronos Quartet. The quartet gives it quite a harsh sound; add to that Mansell's electronics; electric guitars, some deep brass and percussion; some zither (i think) to give it an 'ancient' feel.

Though there are also moments of (dare I say) 'ethereal' and (almost) lyrical beauty. It has got recurring themes and motifs, but Mansell generally holds back on them. Judging by the score, this is going to be one helluva dark film! smile

Personally, I find it very fascinating, but I'm sure not everyone will feel the same! You know, this is Mansell, not Horner!
