Raimi was throwing too much into the mix. Still, I enjoy the Spidey films.

Hmmm how do you do that? It's surely a technique that once mastered, everything seems possible afterwards!

  3. Sony said it's not true after contacting the site. It's on holiday break.

Actually, Young's contributions in SPIDEY III were the only listenable ones. Good material.

I wish Sony would release a score CD of Young's work on Spider-Man 3 -- Sony won't do any kind of official release because then they'd have to pay Elfman too (it strikes me as odd since there are a lot of movie franchises that do the opposite). It's a shame, Young's usage and deconstruction of Elfman's themes in what was left of his score were intriguing, like that choral bit in the cathedral scene.

Maybe when #4 comes out, Sony will have enough material to do a CD release for #3 and #4.

I liked the action cues in Young's score to the third film indeed, but I thought the rendition of the title music replacing Elfman's terrific electronics with acoustic instruments was a disaster. It just didn't pack the same power anymore. That said, I'd have loved to see an official release at least for the aforementioned action pieces.

I just found it odd for Young to just simply insert his villain theme, at different tempos, into Elfman's main title sequence. Sony probably mandated that Raimi and Young keep Elfman's main title theme intact, but the seques for the Sandman and Venom themes are just too abrupt.

I also really liked Young's action stuff for the construction site fight -- whatever remained after the music editors were done with it.

Yes - it was very odd indeed. I probably said earlier on in this thread - Young and Elfman are such different composers, it just didn't work. I don't think Elfman's Spiderman theme (exceptional though I think it is) is well-enough known that people would have been up in arms if it hadn't been used.

It is an 80 piece orchestra but really doesn't sound like a big orchestra at all.

    Update

Album details and new clips of Creation are online on my website as well as some information and clips of Chris's first game score The Saboteur. Enjoy...
  4. Nice to learn Chris has done a game score. It's so good to see more and more established composers taking this form of entertainment seriously. Will check it out later, thanks.

I've heard CREATION via a promo album that was sent to me and i am STUNNED!
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  5. At MMUK, someone pointed out Young did a theme (maybe mroe cues), and the rest of the score was by two composers (Gabriel Mann and Rebecca Kneubuhl).

I'm very relieved to see CREATION getting an official release. With every release nowadays, I'm holding my breath for it to get a proper treatment, instead of a download only or CD-R version, but at least this will be available on CD!

With all the things I'm hearing about it, I guess this will be a blind buy. You can listen to the beautiful soundclips over here:

Which one? Creation or the game one?

  7. The game. Thought that would be evident.

Read some very positive comments about "Creation" at various boards -- will have to head to Dom's site and listen to any samples.

Last year, composer Christopher Young was at the Eastwood Scoring Stage to record his score for the new romantic comedy, When in Rome, starring Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel, directed by Mark Steven Johnson. ScoringSessions.com was there, and is excited to now bring you the exclusive photos from the session!
