That's the rerecording of the concert in Ghent. The Ice Storm Suite is the only actual live recording. Good cd!

Nice, why don't they note it btw, that it's the recording from Ghent? It'd make such more of an impression if everybody knew it wasn't just a compilation but a whole new set of re-recordings.......anyway, want!

I don't know. Odd indeed, because that'd be a good advertisement for the festival

    Mychael Danna to score Camelot

Film Music Reporter has learned that composer Mychael Danna will be scoring the upcoming TV show Camelot. According to Collider, the epic period drama takes a fresh approach to the powerful story of the legendary King Arthur , weaving it with the authenticity of the most classic medieval tale of all time.

It's been quiet around this guy for a while, apparently, but he's scoring Ang Lee's new film, LIFE OF PI, based upon Yann Martel's sensational book that's long been regarded as 'unfilmable' (Jean Pierre Jeunet had a stab at it, but had to let go as he couldn't figure out how to do it).

The official website is currently up, featuring an incredible realistic snippet of a tiger attack AND a brief glimpse of Mychael Danna's score. It's not much, and it's looped, but, I really like what I hear. Great use of piano, small orchestra and choir.

  1. M. Night Shyamalan was also considering filming the story.

  3. Well I like the book.
And while the amount of obvious effects work in the trailer concerns me, this is Ang Lee, who has made some very good films. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

  4. As much as I loved Lust, Caution, my favourite Lee movie from those I've seen must have been The Ice Storm.

  6. Yeah... but I know what you mean. Hopefully Ang Lee knows what he's doing. For the sake of all his good films (and the fact that the book is a good story), I'll wait and see. smile

When I went on my tour of Fox (courtesy of Nick Redman and Julie Kirgo) last month, we went into the Newman Scoring Stage and Danna was there recording this score. The little bit I heard (choir) sounded rather good!
  7. Hopefully.

    You liked the book, Michael?
I honestly found it far too slow and uninvolving. My expectation of the movie version is next to nil...

  8. I liked the book. I've seen many a good book become an average film though, so I'm not counting my chickens yet.
