Review of the sensational Remember Me, easily my favourite score of 2013 so far:

I like the score but man, not that much. I do feel like the processing (and yes, I know they're appropriate to the plot of the game etc. etc.) gets in the way of the music's flow at times. Then again, there are other moments where it's just indescribably cool. -

IMO, Remember Me is about as perfect as you can get!

Heard it as well now. (It's on Spotify Timmer ). The post-processing is still odd, even after having heard the crazier stuff Bear did in Sarah Connor or recently Defiance. But here it's done less obtrusive. The music is very good indeed, clearly hinting the sound of The Matrix. I wouldn't make it my favourite of the year though but it is interesting and fresh.Kazoo -

Last November, composer Olivier Deriviere scored the CAPCOM video game Remember Me. The sessions took place at Air Studios in London with the famed Philharmonia Orchestra, recorded by award-winning score engineer John Kurlander, and we're excited to bring our readers photos from the scoring session!

His Assassin's Creed music finally has an album release - and it's brilliant. Here's my review:

After the success of Remember Me and Freedom Cry last year, I've been on the lookout for new Deriviere music, and I recently stumbled across his score for a game called Bound by Flame. It seems to be just a little sampler or EP or something, as it's only three tracks totaling under 10 minutes...and before you get your hopes up, it's kind of...weird.
There's a lot of vocal work in it - all of it creative, most of it distracting and a good chunk of it outright obnoxious. It's a shame, because there's some interesting percussive textures in the first two cues (not much in the way of orchestra, just a few strings), but it's impossible not to focus on the various wailing and yelling and gibberish lyrics and such over the top of it. The third cue is more laid-back and more readily enjoyable, but even that is almost ruined by the bizarre mumbling in the last 30 seconds.
You can here the entire score, such as it is, here.
Deriviere is to be applauded for seeming to always want to push the envelope with his innovative textures and vocals, but sadly this really didn't work for me much at all. *shrug* -

I didn't care for it, just as I didn't care much for his previous work that everybody else loved, REMEMBER ME. There is just something about his sound that irks me. It's strange, because he's doing a lot David Arnold-isms, and I love it when Arnold himself does it, but there's something lacking in Deriviere's case.I am extremely serious. -

As much as I'd love to see Deriviere's career evolve into the success that Giacchino mercifully continues to have (given that he also started out in games), I hope he continues writing game scores too. There's something unique and very exciting about this composer, and as long as he continues to get the gigs I suspect we'll be hearing many great things from him.
I realise that's a little lofty, but he's definitely got the ability to become the next Powell or Giacchino (in terms of success). -

Powell? That would be cool. Giacchino? I hope not.I am extremely serious. -

Well, I did suffix it with 'in terms of success'. I tend to avoid these types of comparisons, as what makes a composer the 'next big thing' is partly their uniqueness rather than their ability to copy another's style. -
