Anyway, could you expand a bit on the original story? I'm curious.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_the_Hea … ship_Essex

It's an amazing tale. The theory is that the repairing of small whaling boats with hammers and nails replicates the mating sounds of Bull whales, the Essex was amongst a pod of females with one huge bull who may have seen the ship as a threat to his affections, the bull rammed the ship twice, crippling it.

The whalers could have sailed to nearby Islands including Tahiti but believed them inhabited by cannibals ( in fact they were already well civilised and populated by then ), of course once they ran out of all provisions they turned to cannibalism themselves.....so which living person on your boat do you choose?

  1. It's a big studio project... Here's to hoping that it won't be PG-13... If it is PG-13 even Hans farting rhytmically into the microphone won't make matters worse...

It was probably about the recent epidemic of people missing work due to being put to deep sleep for half a day after listening to Man of Szzzzzzzzz

I would imagine it's about his double win at the Classic Brit awards; where he received a (err) Classic Brit Award for "Contribution to Music" and "Composer of the Year".

Search for Classic Brit Awards or visit the Classic FM website for more info, and plenty pictures.

Speaking of Hans Zimmer ( and there's rarely a time, if ever, that he's not being talked about ) for those who might be interested, the Classical Brit awards are on ITV tonight at 10.20.

There'll be a selection of his works played. One newspaper had a write-up saying that Hans Zimmer will conduct a selection of his own work. biggrin

  8. Here's an article about Zimmer scoring AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 and some of his thoughts about that. Batman, Superman, and now Spider-man. Huh.

I think that it would probably be good if someone other than Hans Zimmer and his ilk would score comic book films.
I love you all. Never change. Well, unless you want to!
  9. Yes, it would. Unless you would still count John Powell as a part of the ilk smile

No, not really. But I would count Brian Tyler when he's writing comic book scores cause he sounds almost exactly like an RC guy in that mode.

  10. I'd be inclined to agree. Tyler, while having his idiosyncrasies and recently pushing his writing beyond the typical action of his, is still an RCP version of Jerry Goldsmith, really... smile

Tracklisting for the soundtrack release for 12 YEARS A SLAVE has been released. Unfortunately, only 2 tracks from Zimmer amidst a lot of inspirational songs. Very much like the SHAME soundtrack release. Let's hope the Zimmer tracks are at least long ones.

    1 Tim Fain – Devil’s Dream
2 John Legend – Roll Jordan Roll
3 Gary Clark Jr. – Freight Train
4 Tim Fain and Caitlin Sullivan – Yarney’s Waltz
5 Alabama Shakes – Driva Man
6 David Hughey and Roosevelt Credit – My Lord Sunshine (Sunrise)
7 John Legend feat. Fink – Move
    8 Hans Zimmer – Washington
9 Gary Clark Jr. – (In The Evening) When The Sun Goes Down
10 Alicia Keys – Queen Of The Field (Patsey’s Song)
    11 Hans Zimmer – Solomon
12 Laura Mvula – Little Girl Blue
13 Chris Cornell feat. Joy Williams – Misery Chain
14 Topsy Chapman feat. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Cast – Roll Jordan Roll
15 Tim Fain – Money Musk
16 Cody Chesnutt – What Does Freedom Mean (To A Free Man)

  11. So, it seems as though Hans Zimmer's mystery collaborator on The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be...

    ...Pharrell Williams.

I think a resounding WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK is in order.

I think that's interesting, actually. Williams is a good songwriter, and it will be nice to hear his take on instrumental cues, if he's allowed.

For those hoping the 2 Hans Zimmer tracks from 12 YEARS A SLAVE would at least be 2 full length suites, get ready for a disappointment. Track times:

    8. Hans Zimmer – Washington (0:25)
    11. Hans Zimmer – Solomon (3:31)

That's right, one of the tracks is a short fiddle piece that sounds like a source track. The other is a lovely piece for strings that covers the more dramatic side of the film and thankfully is a proper score track, but it's not much.

I was very much looking forward to it as well, being one of my most anticipated score releases of the year. Major disappointment. At least the film is getting huge praises across the board, so that's something. LOVE Steve McQueen's work so far since the moment I saw Hunger years ago, so my hopes are sky high at the moment.
