I am checking them now. Apparently the whale's penis is not as specific and I would not use this one Tim. sad

Shit, the pregnant goldfish one is an urban myth as well!

    Nice ones, Alan.
I knew the polar bear and the ravens.
I was illuminated by the rest!

  2. I'd be careful though Tim. I am just checking my information and at least two are just urban myths...

I have checked all of these. The Big Ben one should be revised though. The Daily Mail reported that Big Ben was stopped for 2 hours in 1949 because of roosting starlings.

  7. Well, there definitely are some things about animals I wasn't aware of.

Badly! My team won! shame wink

I took it on because the regular quiz master is on holiday in the USA. Judging by the scores my quiz was quite a bit harder than the usual ones but it was very tight with only one and a half points seperating the top three places.

Here's the beer break round I did, I thought it was easy-peasy ( but I would wink ) but the highest scoring team in this round got only 6 with another team only getting 2 correct...

Give the first names of these classical composers...

    1/ HOLST
GUSTAV
2/ RAVEL
MAURICE
3/ VAUGHAN WILLIAMS
RALPH
4/ WAGNER
RICHARD
5/ RACHMANINOV
SERGEI
6/ MAHLER
GUSTAV
7/ STRAUSS ( 1864 - 1949 )
RICHARD
8/ CHOPIN
FREDERICK
9/ SHOSTAKOVITCH
DIMITRI
10/ COPLAND
AARON
A big raspberry tongue

I think the majority of people on this board would get most if not all of them correct.

Agreed. Otherwise, I would be immensely disappointed by this esteemed crowd.

  9. I didn't get the Chopin. I had no answer to give, assuming that he was like the likes of Madonna, Prince, etc and only had the one name. wink

most people at the quiz thought Vaughan was RVW's first name. And another team still put Johann Strauss despite my putting the birth/death dates in brackets.

  10. To be honest, the dates did not mean much to me. Although I seemed to recall an Alpine-named piece of his from the 20th Century.

...and not Thus Spake Zarathustra aka the theme to 2001 A Space Odyssey?

  11. Nope. That piece never entered my head.

Anyway, wasn't that composed by Alex North? wink

Just over a year later and I find myself once more asked to step into the breech, so it's me as Quizmaster this Thursday.

Amongst the rounds I'm doing is Music, Prehistoric life, Serial Killers and a random questions round.

Any help on any of these subjects would be helpful and seriously considered.

    Thanks!

p.s. no film music questions, if I do any I'll think them up myself, thank you wink
