John Frizzell has recently recorded his orchestral score for The Lodger, David Ondaatje's film which is based on the novel by Marie Belloc Lowndes, previously reworked for the silver screen by Alfred Hitchcock in 1927.

Sweet. Love his work.
And this score is made sweeter since Frizzell has replaced that MV guy from Iceland. Time for revenge against MV drones ! -

One of the most pointless expansions ever...at least to me. Even the ol' album was a bit on the long side, given the type of music it was (so I sold it a couple of months ago). Score is great in the film; not so much on album.I am extremely serious. -

ALIEN RESURRECTION 2 CD? No thanks!
It's not bad at all but I've no desire for an expanded. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

It IS odd? I don't think I've read anywhere on any film music forum of fans demanding an expanded release of Alien Resurrection.
I hope it sells well and all because I want and support our specialist labels to continue, but I don't see this selling out overnight. On Friday I ate a lot of dust and appeared orange near the end of the day ~ Bregt -

I think some of these are aimed more at the hard core fans of the composer. Eraser didn't need an expansion or remaster but I'm sure Silvestri fans eat it up and those that didn't get a chance to own the original release had a chance to get it this time around.
As for Alien Ressurection... it's part of the Alien franchise. Two of the four scores have been expanded... why not the fourth one? While I don't think it's needs an expansion... I like the original album a lot... I'm very curious to hear what has been added.
Another album that I never thought need an expansion was Goldsmith's The Edge... but my God I'm glad someone took a chance on it because, IMHO, the expanded edition completely obliterates the original release. The listening experience is much more broad and the development of themes and motifs become much more clear. And the clean up of "Rescued" was very much needed.

Now where did this come from? I am expressing my dislike to what appears to some people (including me) as needless expanded releases. Just because i don't have the time to write 4 paragraphs about it, that doesn't render my (or anyone else's) opinion less valid than yours. Also if you choose to focus only on the negative stuff some people say, it's your problem; the other day i was commenting on how i liked his 'legion' score for instance and you didn't comment, only when i have something to say which you don't like, then you jump. Or if you consider my contributions to the forum useless you can either express it clearly and directly or simply ignore me, don't just throw bitter tease-like stuff in the air.Love Maintitles. I do have a 2 CD version of Alien Resurrection but I very rarely listen to it and anything I do listen to is on the already-available 1 CD version.
The copy of the expanded version has relatively poor sound quality and the levels are a bit low so I would be interested to hear this new - remastered? - release to hear what improvements have been made.
But as the score isn't particularly interesting to me I'll just have to imagine any improvements.
Shame though that they seem to have jumped over Alien³ for expansion. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

Not really. And not only because I hate C&C presentations in general, but because Goldenthal's music and album programs, in particular, are so very much DEPENDENT upon his rearrangements. They are so much concert music-like that a C&C would pretty much undermine all the qualities of the music, I think.
ALIEN 3 remains a superb album as it is.I am extremely serious. -
- CommentTimeSep 30th 2010
Alien 3 is indeed magnificent and I think, at least for me, a C&C release would be most welcome.

When I mentioned expansion I wasn't necessarily thinking of the C&C treatment - though one tends to go hand-in-hand with the other. I'd like to hear the end credits as a stand-alone listen. Watching the DVD it does seem that this piece is an edited-together effort but I'd like to have some representation of the (admittedly short) corporate theme that's completely missing from the MCA release. The views expressed in this post are entirely my own and do not reflect the opinions of maintitles.net, or for that matter, anyone else. http://www.racksandtags.com/falkirkbairn -

It's my opinion that Frizzell wrote the best score of the Alien series.
How's that for a weird opinion...
