It's a bit of a cheat to include One Day I'll Fly Away from Moulin Rouge!, as that's not his own composition, just a reorchestration. It's like putting a cover on a Best Of compilation. Better should've included that new song he wrote for the film.

Didn't know he was doing WALL STREET! Or i heard and forgot? Anyway, from his website:

Craig Armstrong has recorded the score to the new Oliver Stone film
'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps'. The film is scheduled for release in Sept/Oct 2010.

I will update the site with more details as I receive them.

Well, it's still a valuable addition to the Craig Armstrong thread.

By the way, since the film premiered back in Cannes, I suppose the score has been finished for a while now? Or did they show a workprint in Cannes?

It's not original compositions though, from what i gather, it's from Eno’s and Byrne’s last album, “Everything That Happens Will Happen Today” to backdrop the NYC skyline.

tracksounds's insight: Sounds like the HIGH POINT is Craig Armstrong's original score...

" But it's what composer Craig Armstrong does with those tunes, turning them into orchestral riffs that haunt and envelop, that's really striking. When that music swells and the green light burns, the picture feels truly 3D, immersive and captivating. But unfortunately those moments are increasingly few and fleeting.

Anyone know if there's going to be a score-only cd release?

A couple of "Snapshot" reviews just launched over at http://synchrotones.wordpress.com/ All of the opinion, just less of the words.

One of those featured is Craig Armstrong's The Great Gatsby.

Standard length reviews will commence in the next few days. Be sure to keep checking out the site - or follow @synchrotones on twitter to stay up to date.

I can see how people who love his scores were dissapointed with scores such as The Incredible Hulk and In Time. However, Neds and The Great Gatsby do display Armsrong strenght at its fullest. The Great Gatsby has the recognizable orchestrations, lush themes and smart infusings of songs with his orchestral arrangements. A good example of this last thing is the lovely ´Castle Went Dark´ (featuring The xx)..

Those string towards the end are nothing short of pure magic.
  4. I wasn't at all disappointed in The Incredible Hulk. It's my favorite Armstrong score and is still the best score to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe IMO.

That cue from Great Gatsby is particularly excellent though. smile

  5. I really liked his work on GATSBY. (Although the similarity of the Daisy theme to a theme from Yared's COLD MOUNTAIN gets me every time. Pure coincidence, but unfortunately I know that other score too well.)

  6. Yeah... "Let's Go To Town" (on the Gatsby score) is worth every penny alone.
