    I like the look of the new movie (several nods to THE SHINING, IMO), but I have to admit that I'm no fan of Anderson. It's just something about his particular approach to 'quirk' that doesn't appeal to me. I rather prefer the quirk of directors like Burton, Gilliam or Jeunet.
    I am extremely serious.
  3. I never did get around to seeing FANTASTIC MR FOX, but I loved MOONRISE KINGDOM (in particular the first half), so the new film looks like it will be fun. Nice to see a director using aspect ratio purposefully within a narrative.
    (BTW, why The Shining, Thor -- is it just the image of a hotel in the middle of nowhere? The flatness of Anderson's images verses Kubrick's vignetted perspective shots seems pretty distinct to me.)

    Something about the lighing, the patterns in the carpet, the design of the hotel, the red...I don't know, it just gave me SHINING vibes, even though the tone of the film is obviously something completely different.
    I am extremely serious.
