Well, you sort of missed my point there. I said regardless of how well it's used as a story device. I'm still mildly interested in seeing this film!

I wouldn't criticise Star Wars for having sound in space, because most people already know this isn't the case, and it's a perfectly acceptable (and enjoyable) artistic license. But this is a case of explicitly promoting a common myth about the brain, which is misinformation.

So yes, it's not a particularly harmful myth - but it's still false. And it's irritating when people come away from watching this as though they've just learnt something about neurology.

I can understand how scientific errors might be irritating if that's your angle. Don't buying into the premise etc. But for me -- especially when watching a Besson film -- that's never really been important. It's ALL about mise-en-scene, like his 'cinema du look' colleagues Jean-Jacques Beineix and Leos Carax (and Jeunet & Caro as an extension). The problem with his 2000s efforts is that they've all been too formulaic. Heck, even many of the films he has produced and written have been better than the films he has directed -- like COLOMBIANA, the TRANSPORTER and TAKEN films.

But something happened here. I don't know if it's Johansson who inspired him or whatever, but he fires on all cylinders here.

Depends on one's approach to the film, I guess. I just fell totally in love with it; my favourite film of the year so far.
    I am extremely serious.

I do love The Fifth Element. But I don't love Scarlett Johansson. (Only her butt.)

    She does at that.
And she's a very fine actress as well.

I mostly can't stand her in the Marvel films. I despise her character. More so than that Nazi Richard Dawkins.

THE KATE BUSH STORY: RUNNING UP THAT HILL

    On BBC 4

    Brilliant!

Whether you like her or not this is worth watching. Maybe you'll even see why I consider her a genius. A truly unique and brilliant artist.

And man was she beautiful in her youth or what!?

Fine contributions from David Gilmore, John Lydon, Peter Gabriel, Elton John, Steve Coogan and more.

    Yes, she was, really.
Quite by accident I caught part of the program.
I still don't care much for her music (although I appreciate her virtuosity), but I was quite struck by surprise -even melancholically so- in that she was an absolute dead ringer for my very first girl friend!

    Godzilla (2014)

There's a few faults, but it more than makes up for them in terms of sheer size and awe, and some excellent moments of direction by relative newcomer Gareth Edwards. In fact, this may just be the best monster film I've seen since Jurassic Park.

Desplat's score is excellent in the film.

    Gojira!

Nope, but I will definitely check it out.

Everything had such a good sense of scale in this film, shit felt real. And the monster/Godzilla design was brilliant. Loved it!

    Agree! ( how boring....I agree! wink )

Monsters is IMO, excellent. It's more of a travelogue, nothing much happens but it has a real sense of being "real" ( as you point out about Godzilla 'shit felt real' ), so cheaply made yet it looks far more than that. A great example of guerrilla film making, make sure you watch the Making Of film which is enlightening and very enjoyable.
