I would probably pick Inception over all of them.

Especially The Lion King. Fuck that score.

I really would pick Inception over all of them.

Zimmer's golden era: Lion King, Backdraft, TTRL, Gladiator. Compare with now. :sigh:

isn't that the case for every composer?
The Williams of the 80's and 90's, The James Horner of the 80's and 90's, and I could go on and on ...

I love the late Williams. Darker and more dissonant. Horner still writes some really good music (amazing spiderman for instance). Now, Z on the other hand...
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.

Most overrated score of the millennium, so far.

I'm sure there are indeed places in the dark corners of the Interwebz where it is indeed overrated, but I've never got that sense round 'ere these parts.

I think it's probably his best score, but for me at least The Lion King and Thin Red Line are right up there.
  3. That's exactly what I'm talking about. I doubt it would make my Hans Top 20.

I only maintain a Top 17 for composers whose surnames feature six letters or fewer, and I can confirm that it is featured in there very prominently.

You have a top 20 Zimmer?
  4. I've heard 86 Zimmer scores and Inception sits at #41 in that list.

Don't ask. My analness when it comes to rating scores knows no bounds. freezing

Hehe indeed inception is brilliant as well.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  5. It is. It's Zimmer's "Blade Runner".

We do have a tendency to repeat our discussions ad nauseam, haven't we? cheesy
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

    Oh, sorry. Don Davis.
  7. The rolleyes is more in reference to the oddly persistent love that Inception gets from people who are otherwise lukewarm on Zimmer...I just don't get it. confused

Because it's an excellent score, and is incredibly memorable and effective in the film. Zimmer nailed it with that score.
  8. But why is (say) Inception generally considered excellent and the Dark Knight scores generally considered average (often by the same people) when they sound so friggin' similar?

They don't sound similar to me beyond a superficial level. Inception feels so organically crafted to the film - there are highs and lows, genuine dramatic flow. The Batman scores are so monochrome in comparison (if you're not going to do colour, at least do shades of grey - they don't even do that).

    Speaking of bad Zimmer scores...

    The Peacemaker

Christ, this is painful to sit through. There are some good bits, but nowhere near enough of them even for a 60-minute album, let alone 93. (93!)
  9. The Peacemaker is considerably higher in my list of Zimmer scores (#17) than Inception. tongue
