This would be my favourite 80s Horner score along side Wrath of Khan, if only it had a slightly better recording (had it been performed by the LSO for example). The less-than-stellar (pun intended) performance does have a certain charm, but I would love to hear a full-blooded rerecording.

Yes, I like this more than the famed Krull.

Ever heard that song by Dizzie Rasclat called Bonkers?

I'd forgotten how good this one is. Fantastic guttural scoring.

Agree! I love it too but I have to be in the right mood. Fantastic use of the Blaster Beam in this one.

  1. Silva recorded a very nice suite in Prague once. That gives you an idea about a full-blooded recording.

There's only one thing you can listen to after going through Lair three times in two days and that's the greatest fantasy score ever written. (Which is this, if you were in any doubt.)

I say Conan Der Bar Bar but I shan't disagree with such sublime beyond-awesomeness.

People easily forget....or didn't know.....or wisely avoided* HOWARD THE DUCK, a great John Barry score to a Marvel character. It'll surprise everyone and their mum that I want this on CD.

*I sort of like it and find it watchable.

    NP: KATMANDU (Pascal Gaigne)

Gaigne is one of the most interesting composers around. His music is hypnotic! Throw some ethnic elements into the mix, and it's a winner.

Again, some good tracks, some a bit boring. But Trapanese is always worth looking out for. I love his general ideology of incorporating lovely synthpop elements into his scores.

True but he can do so much better than this.

    No, that's about right.

Up until the early 90's all scores were rated from 1-10 because they needed to be. Now the goal posts have changed and a mere 1-5 is more than adequate with the very rare score-par-excellence shouting out that easily breaches the 5 star boundary.

    All FACT of course!

I just tried to find this on Spotify. Unfortunately it's not there, though there is a good selection of his scores I decided to check this compilation out...

FILM MUSIC RETROSPECTIVE - Pascal Gaigne

Some excellent music here, really, really impressed. Oh, and the one track from Katmandu was gorgeous, I really must check out the full score, Indian/Asian influenced western film music is my favourite ethnic blend.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan James Horner

I'm probably one of only a few people at the gym listening to this right now. (Though I do see a lot of people have earphones on, so I'm sure at least one other person is listening to this too.)
