Enemy Of The Gate The River Crossing to Stalingrad James Horner

I've played this more times than almost anything in my library. I rarely listen to the whole score, but this is a symphonic movement in itself.

Yes, he's reusing old tricks and motifs. Yes, he's stealing from Russian composers. But fuck you, it's awesome.
  1. Something I've been saying myself. It'd be a choice of mine as well smile

There's also a French composer in it (Saint-Saens) smile

    It's a very thin reference Pawel, a mere hint of saint-Saens symphony # 3

    yeah

My next choice for World's Greatest Film Cue goes to "The Flying Circus" from THE ROCKETEER by James Horner. Like "The Asteroid Field" this cue is another brilliant marriage of viz and music. Horner hits all the sync points brilliantly. I love the bumdabumpdabumpdabumpda rhythms as The Rocketeer's engine fires up below the clouds as if Horner's music is punching the ignition. And it's a soaring piece of stand alone music as well.

Fuck influences and plagiarisms. This cue is great. The score is great. We need more like this.

Now that you reminded me of JNH-Shyamalan, and because the later brings the best self of the former out, how could i forget:

JAMES NEWTON HOWARD - "Flow Like Water" (from the LAST AIRBENDER)
JAMES NEWTON HOWARD - "Be With You " (from the HAPPENING)
JAMES NEWTON HOWARD - "The gravel road" (from THE VILLAGE)
JAMES NEWTON HOWARD - "Mr.Glass-end title" (from UNBREAKABLE)

UNDERWATER MAYHEM / DEATH OF LARGO / END TITLES from John Barry's Thunderball.

    007

The greatest Bond action track in my opinion. John Barry's 007 theme gets its greatest workout here, a theme and variations that unfortunately never appears again.
