Although you now have to choose between the version that's on the original release of Predator 2 or the newer version - there's about 15-20 seconds of additional tribal ostinato near the start on the newer version.

As far as the sound quality is concerned, I think that I prefer the levels on the original version.

Anyone know of how to tweak the deluxe score so that it tones down the tinniness?

As bad ass as it is I have a feeling it's an edit from previously existing cues.

Do you have your system set up in a certain way? I tend just to have things "as is" or with very little modification. have you less treble? I was listening to the 2 "End Titles" side-by-side to see where the difference in the track lengths was and, although the percussion sounded great, the strings and (to a lesser extent) the brass sounded very shrill.

I like the high end. I like that the brass and strings can stand out and not get buried in the mix like some really shitty early 2000's Shawn Murphy recordings. There's nice balance of highs, mids and low end on the Predator 2 mix.

For my set up I usually bring up the highs and lows and leaving the mids flat.

I just had a good perusal through this list. Only 4 tracks I have no familiarity with and only 4 tracks I flat out personally dislike.

It would make for a very eclectic and wonderful play list.

I haven't even started on the really good ones -- although Pawel's last entry happens to be my alltime favourite cue in almost any sphere of music ever composed. I had intended to save that for later, but now it's out there!
    I am extremely serious.
  4. Not to open any worm cans or anything, but - which are the ones you dislike? tongue

There are way more on that list I haven't heard than I care to admit. Still, that's the good thing about film music - the journey never ends. biggrin

It has been a long time since I put a choice forward...

ICE FLOES from Ralph Vaughan Williams SCOTT OF THE ANTARCTIC

Subtly suggesting a sense of epic awe this ethereal track conjures icy expanses perfectly.

Only a tiny section of this piece is incorporated into his 7th Symphony. Thankfully I see that someone has uploaded the film score track to YT recently.

For those who have not heard it... ICE FLOES

It isn't a massive leap to imagine hearing this for the cloud sequence in STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE.

I listened to this again but this time I listened to it through speakers rather than headphones and it sounded much better. I think I need to revisit my settings for headphones: I've always been a bit unsure about the quality of the sound coming through the headphones. But as they were Sennheisers I'd assumed it wasn't the headphones themselves.

I'll delve into the iTunes EQ settings and the IDT Audio programme that seems to be associated with the sound on my laptop...

Each time I think of music for this list I end up being confused about what is brilliant, classic or favourite...
Anyway, here are a couple more:

Reunited / In Search Of The Grail - MERLIN - Trevor Jones
Klendathu Drop - Starship Troopers - Basil Poledouris
Comptine d'Un Autre Eté - AMELIE - Yann Tiersen
Stillness Of The Mind - A Single Man - Abel Korzeniowski
The Launch - APOLLO 13 - James Horner
The Creation - Mary Shelley's Frankenstein - Patrick Doyle

I think there can be more Korzeniowski on this list. Perhaps something from WE of Romeo and Juliet.
Also, I want more Horner. Something from Braveheart or A Beautiful Mind, but I can't decide what piece. Please think along.

And more Lord of the Rings!! (I mean, The End Of All Things... slant ) There is so much more great music. Will think about it during Christmas break.

  8. It's about time I contributed to this list. My favorite piece of film music is "That Next Place," from MEET JOE BLACK by Thomas Newman. There's something about that piece that touches me on a spiritual level. I'm not a huge fan of the film, but that finale is so over-the-top, so grand, so perfect, so glorious, and so sappy, that it just makes me tear up every time, and most of the reason for that is Newman's fantastic music. In my opinion, film music doesn't get better than this piece.

    Twister Cow Mark Mancina

This may seem like a Guilty Pleasure type choice, but I'm of the opinion (and as usual I'm correct) that this is a brilliant piece of film music. It captures the herocism, the danger and the excitement of chasing a tornado in a red truck for the purposes of attempting to release hundres of motion trackers in the name of science perfectly. (I'm not sure if it's that exact scene, but... whatever. It's great.)
  9. Speaking of guilty pleasures:

    Storm by Craig Armstong (edit)

Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2007) Rahman / Armstrong

This cue was in how many trailers? The last one I remember was Man of Steel.

    Volker
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  10. That cue is by Armstrong. And I'm not sure whether it specifically was in a lot of trailers, but "Hanging/Escape" from Plunkett and Macleane definitely was, of which that cue is an extremely direct descendant. wink
  11. Damn, I wasn't sure and googled it. Wiki (English) sais it's by Rahman. angry
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  12. You want a cue? I'll give you a cue you won't believe!

    Film: "First Blood"
    Composer: Goldsmith
    Cue: Home Coming

A wonderful cue and just a perfect musical salute to the heroes who returned home to a nation which some members thereof, were less than grateful.

It's a beautiful theme, memorable, sad, but with a glimmer of hope to it.

    And a classic film.
