Journey 2 has become one of my favourites in recent months. I love it.

I like the movie a lot too, thanks to the music and the equally old fashioned adventurous feel

Timmer, is trailer music allowed on the list, or does that fall under the category of "pre-existing music"? Could think of some great tracks from Two Steps From Hell to add to the list, but as far as I know, they weren't composed specifically to the movie trailers they were used in. Did I just answer my own question? smile

A fantastic way to herald in the new Bond, and far more 'gritty' than any action music Arnold had done before.

I think this is one of the greatest action cues ever written.
You may disagree with that, but you'd be wrong.

Damn fine cue but I think "Miami International" is even better!

We could go over and start a "Outstanding Singular Pieces of Trailer Music Brilliance" thread but I feel like it would be a bit of an echo chamber. tongue

    My track of the day:

BRIDESHEAD REVISITED -- "Brideshead Revisited" -- Geoffrey Burgon

Although he veered towards a form of minimalism that wasn't always appealing, the late Burgon was brilliant when he did those melancholic, elegant and very "English" melodic lines. Perhaps none more so than the main theme for this series. I could just as well have picked the religious-sounding theme for Aslan in NARNIA, but it's a bit short, and we're talking about outstanding cues here, so this will have to suffice instead.
    I am extremely serious.

"Tangiers" - "The Bourne Ultimatum" - John Powell

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRZ_itT50l4

I have only watched the first movie of the series, and I'm not really a fan, but John Powell's score for Ultimatum had a fantastic track called "Tangiers" that I absolutely love! I like the use of "middle-eastern" instruments and the percussion in it, and I think the track just showcases the level of originality and playfulness that John Powell always brings to the movies he scores.

    My track of the day:

AGNES OF GOD -- "Symphonic Suite for Chorus and Orchestra, Part 1 (track 2)" -- Georges Delerue

This score uses Delerue's sense of bittersweetness with elements of the 'religious sound'. Doesn't get much better than that. While many of the suspense tracks aren't that interesting, this statement of the theme is the best on the album. This and the last track, maybe.
    I am extremely serious.
  4. Did you ever compare that last track (Wich is essentially the second track+choir) with Williams' "You are the Pan"? Revealing. Anyhow both are sublime tracks. smile

Yeah. They are both gorgeous tracks, but I've never really seen that much of a melodic similarity. More in the general 'ambiance', I think.

  5. Night Search Jaws John Williams

One of my favourite Willams pieces, it's lyrical, mysterious, ominous and beautiful all at the same time. It's always reminded me of the alternate version of 'Binary Sunset' from 'Star Wars'.

  6. Speaking of "Jaws", I have to mention one cue (well, I'll do more later) from the score, more specifically the MCA re-recording:

    One Barrel Chase
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucNGgml89FE

What the re-recording did to the score is wonderous; it expanded upon cues, fleshed some out more, and ultimately tightened and even made cues that faltered a little from the original recording, shine. Even the lackluster sound quality has a certain charm to it.

This is the version I was brought up on and it all seems to have an energy in the action scoring that's a bit lacking in the original soundtrack recording.
