Composer Antoine Duhamel has died today.

He's well known for the music of the Nouvelle Vague movies. I first heard his music on the superb Nouvelle Vagues album of Traffic Quintet and Alexandre Desplat.

    That sucks!

I've often used his PIERROT LE FOU score -- mangled as it often was by Godard -- as an example of alternative scoring in my lectures.

    RIP.

    I certainly mourn his passing.

Antoine Duhamel should be remembered for more than his contributions to the French Nouvelle Vague.
He had an impressive collaboration with Bernard Tavernier...and Duhamel's contemporary classical compositions have yet to be on discs.

Music Box Records offers a re-mastered edition on Antoine Duhamel's LA SIRENE DU MISSISSIPI:

    http://www.musicbox-records.com/2006-th … issipi.jpg

This has the same content as the 1991 Milan CD.

Timmer, Thor and maybe a few others might recall that this is one of the soundtracks I listed within the thread on our favorite 50 albums.
Timmer was interested in hearing MISSISSIPPI MERMAID samples, but, at the time, none were available online.

Glad this is back in circulation!

Thanks for the tips! By the way -- and as long as I have your attention -- are you aware of Quartet's new box set of Antonioni scores? Looks spectacular. I know we both share a love for the late Italian director.

Oh, yes - just learned about the Antonioni box set yesterday. I'm elated by this!
You may recall that my favorite Antonioni film is L'Eclisse. This Quartet issue is a highlight of 2015 and a must buy for me.

There are quite a number of books published about the films of Antonioni and I wonder how many of the authors (and the readers) will be aware of all the music that went unused in the final prints of those films.
(by the way, I never got Quartet's La Notte since I had the earlier Japanese CD on the Gaslini music - so I'll wind up getting Quartet's La Notte anyway as it's part of the set smile )

Now if only Svensk Filmindustri would have the sound elements on their Ingmar Bergman films ... I can dream on ...

Yeah, that would be great. I seem to recall a CD of some of Erik Nordgren's music, but I might be mistaken. However, Scandinavian companies are notorious for not storing music elements, as we almost never release soundtracks. Not then, not now.
