The series itself has evolved, not only the music. Arnold started out as a Barry-sound-alike but then developed very much his own tone as the franchise moved on. His "Casino Royal" is among my favourite scores of the series.

Yes, Bond has evolved, it won't be long before he's a tree-hugger.

Odd description given that Craig's Bond is the least tree-hugging one of the lot.

An extremism for sure but the de-mystification of Bond continues.

He'd win in a fight with all the previous Bonds, no question. Bourne is his only worthy rival.

Matt Damon? lol And little Danny Craig against Connery? Double lol

  1. I recently read some Ian Fleming and it is my impression that Daniel Craig actually comes closest to the character of the novels. Timothy Dalton is second and Roger Moore - the only real tree-hugger of the lot - resembles him the least. I do like those irony driven Moore-Bonds of the 80s but there is next to no Fleming in these films.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  2. NP: Atlantis - The Lost Empire (2001) - James Newton Howard

This great fantasy romp feels quite "mature" for an animated film, but so does the film itself.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

That makes sense considering Fleming's idea of Bond was Noel Coward wink

    uhm

    Are you high?

Anyway. I'm not a fan of Bond, I think the old films are cringe-worthy. I do like the new ones though.
  3. NP: Peter Pan (2003) - James Newton Howard

I hold film and score in high regard and I think that both are gradually underrated. With this score, Powell's PAN and Williams' HOOK we now have a real nice Pan related score trilogy.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.
  4. Define "old", Steven. Pre-2000?
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

Pre-Craig I suppose, before the Casino Royale 'reboot'. Some of them are bloody awful, especially the Roger Moore ones. Good heavens.
  5. Those are my mother's favourite Bond films. smile I guess good old Roger is a darling of many women that age.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

I like the new and the old, I grew up with those.

I've warmed a lot to Craig but compared to Connery he's a thug whereas Connery is a super charismatic animal. No fucking contest!

What my friends and I refer to as the 'Carry On Bond' years. For all the cringe-worthy moments Moore's Bond was a helluva lot of tongue-in-cheek fun, unlike the Connery years I can watch these time and again.

Totally agreed (although I love a couple of the Brosnan films too). Never understood what the big Bond deal is; maybe you'd have to grow up with them to properly understand.
    I am extremely serious.
  6. NP: James Bond 007 - Skyfall (2012) - Thomas Newman

Like good wine this continues to get better and even better.

That, of course, I can understand. I grew up with them too to some degree, but obviously not while they were so fresh and zeitgeist-y..?

Well yes, Connery was the epitome of suave. No contest. I meant in terms of kick-assery. Connery's character wasn't a master of martial arts and self-defence like Bourne and Craig-Bond are.

Oh do listen to McNeely's Return To Never Land. Also try Benjamin Wallfisch's Peter Pan. There so much more great Pan related music out there.

  7. Will do so. Now that I think about it I also own "Tinker Bell" (McNeely) and Disney's "Peter Pan" (Wallace et al). With the trilogy I merely referred to live action films.

  9. So someone other than Williams scoring Spielberg isn't such a bad idea after all...

Why, should it have been? As long as Williams doesn't pop his clogs before he's finished Star Wars, all is good in the world.
  10. Some people in the press were worried about the idea of a Spielberg film without Williams' music. As if Newman was some cut-rate substitute...
  11. Also as a producer Spielberg has worked with a variety of composers.
Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

    Interstellar Hans Zimmer

    My own playlist:

    1. Who's They?
    2. Chasing Drone
    3. Stay
    4. Entering Endurance
    5. Message From Home
    6. They're Not Mountains
    7. Years Of Messages
    8. I'm Going Home
    9. Coward
    10. Imperfect Contact
    11. No Time For Caution
    12. Detatch
    13. S.T.A.Y.
    14. Quantifiable Connection
    15. End Credits

    A great score.
  12. NP: Devil - Fernando Velázquez

A strong "horror" score. Quite unsettling in places but very dramatic when required. Also, quality of album enhanced by some solid performances.

  15. NP: Scanners - Howard Shore

A mix of orchestra and electronics, with the strings being of most interest. Perhaps would benefit from a Howe Records going-over to hear it at its best.
