    - No one has heard of this movie. And that one thing - being such a low profile film - is going to overshadow the good points and kill the album sales wise. Unfortunately, this is going to be another Christopher Gordon On The Beach. Magnificent score that no one has heard.

    So sad...

I'm thinking of Tuomas' score sitting on shelves in the High Street HMV or Virgin stores but with no-one realising what a feast they have if only they would take a chance. I've seen one TV ad for the movie and a couple of full-page ads in film mags such as Empire but that's it.

It's really frustrating seeing endless pages, ads, space, time, debates and effort being wasted on horrendous crap like IRON MAN whilst at the same time there's so many composers who are truly writing quality MUSIC - in violent contrast to pure junk, and are going under the radar, neglected by the masses simply 'cause the media chooses to swing elsewhere.
Love Maintitles. It's full of Wanders.
  2. ARN was actually one of the more underrated film scores of last year. I know I voted for it in the International Film Music Critics thing. (Though I imagine I was the only one.) MONGOL was also a 2007 score, technically.

I only came to listen to ARN this year, sadly. And was blown away by it, same goes for MONGOL's samples, looking forward to the score CD.

Same here. ARN could have easily made my Top 10.

The first trailers for the film Martinin Pirut (Everdark), which Tuomas will be scoring, are released:

    http://www.timelessfilms.com/view.php?c … ser_hq.flv
    http://www.timelessfilms.com/view.php?c … r_2_hq.flv

The film seems pretty bad but I think the score will be much better.

A couple of sound clips from Mongol at colosseum.de (the first clip is from Mummy 3 for some reason):

    https://www.colosseum.de/colosseum/prod … 757e278efb

The album cover is different and the tracklist is also longer. It seems that Colosseum release is going to be different from the Varese Sarabande release.

My guess is that the two albums have identical content and one of the sites has made a mistake. I guess we'll find out when some people have bought them!

Yeah, you're just flogging a dead horse, Mikael.
It won't be long before we find you on the streets, reeking of windows defroster and urine, incoherently intoning obscure Finnish composers' names...

But you do a much better job at marketing your albums than Varese does, IMHO. How do you explain the pitiful sales numbers for On The Beach.

On top of that... you don't manufacture thousands of copies of your albums. You are in the limited edition CD and download business. I'm sure your costs aren'tt as high as Varese's.

    THE ITALIAN KEY

    New assignment for the composer.

The movie is a romantic coming-of-age fairy tale about a 19-year old orphan girl who, as her sole inheritance, gets an antique key that unlocks both an old Italian villa and the secrets of her family history.

The score was recorded in London in December with the Isobel Griffiths' orchestra and recorded and mixed by Geoff Foster.

A.R. Rahman and Tuomas Kantelinen have been tapped to score the fantasy action adventure The Seventh Son.

  7. (Reposted from the non-film music Now Playing thread so that any Kantelinen fans won't miss it)

LUMIKUNINGATAR (THE SNOW QUEEN) - Tuomas Kantelinen

Just finished up my first listen to this. It is apparently a holiday-themed Finnish ballet composed just this year? Did I get that right? It's quite good! There's some fun, light-hearted music, some serious ominous music, quite a few dances that are country-themed (there's a Swedish dance, a Russian dance, a Spanish Dance, etc.) Those are fun. Then there's some gorgeous melodies in the same style as the most beautiful music he wrote for MOTHER OF MINE. Check out "XXIII - Pas de deux" for an excellent example of this. It's seven-and-a-half minutes of gorgeousness!

    It's also available on Spotify.
  8. I listened to the clips for this. I love Thomas' work but this ballet music, I just didn't connect at all.

Nope. I'm in the UK! But interestingly.... I just looked again and it's gone!
How strange. It WAS there. I bought it. For £5.99 even. Hm... maybe iTunes ran out of stock? confused
