Considering that he's an up-and-coming guy with a major movie out in cinemas right now, I figured I'd start a thread for Swedish composer Ludwig Göransson.

To get the ball rolling, here's my review of his score for CREED, for anyone who's interested:

Have to admit, that I had never even heard of Ludwig Göransson, before I listened to his Black Panther score. But what a great score this is. Seeing the movie tomorrow, so hopefully it works great within the film as well.
  2. Try Creed. Less Africa, more Bill Conti (as the film is a Rocky spin-off).

I haven't give the BP soundtrack a full listen, but I already wonder how it can stand up to the excellent Creed score. I was listening to that one full blast on car speakers: goosebumps!
Bach's music is heartless and robotic.
  3. Try Waterfall Fight wink .

wow, terrific stuff. I'll give the full soundtrack a listen later today

  4. Knowing how much you like Creed from your post above it was clear to me that you would love Waterfall Fight as well. Especially the ending fanfare.

it's the same conti-esque brass over rugged percussion, but to me it's missing that long lined theme in Creed. Definitely good stuff, though.

"not content with remaking Ghostbusters for women (the horror), we’ve now got The Pink Panther remade for black people. "

    biggrin

  5. Good review. The only things I'd disagree on are the extent to which the length of the album "ruins" the music (I'd say it's a three-star album of a four-star score, not two), and also the hip-hop stuff (which is mostly for the villain Killmonger), which while not quite to my taste either does give Killmonger a very distinct sound, and the way Göransson weaves it in and out of the various other musical "strands" is very impressive indeed.

Good for him, but I've not been impressed with any of his work so far. But I know he has a big following, and at the very least I can be proud of a fellow Scandinavian landing a STAR WARS gig. As for how it will turn out, time will tell.
    I am extremely serious.
  9. Given the intelligence with which he was able to adapt the Bill Conti Rocky material for his Creed scores, I'm cautiously optimistic that he will be able to do the same for Williams and Star Wars. He wouldn't have been my first choice but he's far from the worst either.

I'm really excited for Ludwig, loved Black Panther and Creed, and his work for Community was great at points too. I think he's a very intelligent composer, and his best work is still ahead.

Hope they get Powell back for something at some point, Solo was thumping good adventure stuff.
  10. I'd love if Powell gets another shot, but I also kinda like the idea of Star Wars being a musical playground in which lots of composers get to play. I wouldn't want anyone, even someone as good as Powell, becoming the franchise "house composer". That's an honor that ought to remain with Williams.
  11. At some point they might even choose to walk away from Williams' musical idiom altogether. This Mandalorian series is probably rather detached from much that defines Star Wars anyway.

Bach's music is vibrant and inspired.

True true. And I agree with Captain Future too, hopefully the universe gets much more stylistically diverse, otherwise it might become a bit stale me thinks.
