Hans Salter and Paul Dessau and their score for "House of Frankenstein" is a fantastic one that I put in the top 100 of all time. It afforded the opportunity to put the themes of the Wolfman, Frankenstein, and Dracula together. You can get a variety of cues that were used in a variety of different of Universal pictures. They are clever, leitmotif, and recognizable. The movie by the way was the worst of the Frankenstein series, so in that respect it was made a little bit better. But its still an awful movie.

    I strongly doubt that.

He did that, not so outwardly, but he basically calls Pearl Harbor drivel *all* the time.

  2. I remember an interview where Zimmer basically said of PEARL HARBOR - 'ok, clearly not my best work. Done in a real hurry, and didn't turn out the way I hoped it would. I knew the soundtrack reviewers would hate it, and they basically did.'
A butterfly thinks therefore I am
  3. Not his score, I mean the film. When it comes to his own scores he's very critical of his own works sometimes.

In one interview Zimmer said Pearl Harbor had funnier dialogues than Shrek. How's that about a review of a war melodrama? biggrin

    Omen 3: The Final Conflict

Goldsmith's score was quite magnificent in places despite the fact the film stunk.

The above line may be repeated again for countless other films!

And one of the rare times I went to see the film numerous times just to savour that score. ( some here will remember that Final Conflict didn't get a score release for a number of years after the films release )

That's right, Tim. But when it did become available I snapped up a copy! You actually went to see the film more than once? Now that is dedication to the cause.

Yep! Weirdly one of the times was a double bill, Final Conflict & Alien?!?!? spin ( I think on that time I REALLY wanted to see Alien again ) ....how weird is that!? Anyone else remember those strange times of oddly matched cinema double bills?

  8. Cutthroat Island by John Debney. Awful film but one of the best scores of the 90's. He truly captured the adventurous spirit.

The same can be said about Krull.

Could I suggest....1980's George and Mildred, by Les Reed? Once upon a time, he played in the John Barry Seven so he has to be good. George vs Jacko is a fantastic Rock 'n' Roll cue

Look, I know I may have destroyed any street cred I had with the George and Mildred thing. In fact, I've been hiding in a cave ever since.

How's about Burt Bacharach's Casino Royale? The film was terrible, but the score - especially Herb Alpert's Casino Royale and Dusty Springfield's The Look of Love - are fabulous.

By the way, Timmer, the G+M tracks are on a CD of music from Hammer comedy films. They produced a lot of film spin offs from TV series in the 60s and 70s and some of the music is quite good.
  10. Christopher Columbus: The Discovery - Cliff Eidelman wrote a score with an idea of what the film should have been, not what it was.
Revenge is sweet... Revenge is best served cold... Revenge is ice cream.

Maybe it's a nostalgia thing Tom, I always enjoyed the film as a child. Now it's just cheesy but still enjoyable.
